Does e-liquid expire?

Hi again everyone!

Just a quick question about how I should store my e-juices.

I stocked up with quite a few and don't know if they're better in the fridge or in a cool/dry place? Also... do they expire?! There is no expiry date that I can see on the bottle itself.

Side note: I'm now over 3 weeks smoke free! Yay!

My liquid has been vapable stored on a shelf, cool and dry, for well over 6 months. Some don't even get as good as they can be till a few months on the shelf if they were made to order. I find refrigeration isn't needed.

I think storing in a cool, dry, dark place is the best. Example. I had some Johnson Creek and stored it in the fridge. It ended up getting very very dark and strong. I had 2 30 ml bottles of the same flavor. The one I kept out stayed good whereas the refrigerated one had to be tossed.

Edited to add: the JC juice came in amber glass bottles so I don't think it was the light that caused it to go bad as much as the refrigeration did. I make all of our juice now and make up 60 mls each of our favorites each time I mix. The 60ml bottles are clear glass. I keep those in a wooden box and use them to fill Cobalt blue dripper bottles as needed. I think heat and light are the 2 things you need to prevent. I think light is the most damaging. JMHO

Congratulations with quitting.
If you are not going to keep your juice in storage for years, expiration is not really a problem. Cool dray place away from light helps.

Cool dark place. Most vendors say 1 year, but I am vaping some NT juice that's 16 months old and it still tastes great.

Some juice I don't even like until its 2-4 months old . And some I prefer fresh.

What all of the above have said, plus it really depends on the liquid. I have a few liquids I've had since the beginning of the year that still taste good, and others that taste like poo after a few months.

I have vaped juice that was 'stored' in an atty I was not using for about 2 years with no problem. VG is marked with a 'best before' date that is 2 years after manufacture. PG is 5 years. I do not use any organic flavorings, like extracts, in my juices. I store mixed juice, flavorings, PG and VG at room temperature not in the fridge. These all get used in 2 years.

I have about a decade worth of nic base on hand in 50/50 PG/VG. I store that in glass bottles in a regular freezer.

Juice that lasts for months? Try that with a pack of smokes. I just finished off a year old bottle of Strawnilla and it was absolutely delish. Never would have smoked a year old pack of cigarettes, yuck. Just one more benefit to switching to add to the list.

Cigarettes get stale pretty quick. Just another plus of vaping.

Cool, dark place. They should usually last 2 years after they've been made. That's not to say a juice can't go wrong because of the heat before that or the juice can't last well over the said 2 years in perfect conditions, it all depends, if in doubt give it a try and see how it smells/tastes. Theoretically, VG should last less than PG.

I had an experience with "storing in the fridge".

Over a year and a half ago I received two extra 120ml bottles of Quack's "goose juice"( a sweet custard type thick high-ish VG juice) as a gift after a mess-up with my order .

I put one away in a shoe box on a shelf in a corner of my living room .
I put the other one in the fridge on the shelf on the door.
Both unopened.

A year and a half later.... the one in the shoebox is almost black and very thick while the one in the fridge is the same clear, thin, pale yellow liquid I received from the shop (as a matter of fact it NEEDS a bit of steeping I would def take it out for awhile before using ie .several weeks).


SO I def believe keeping in the fridge helps prolong it a bit by somewhat slowing the oxidation /aging process .
I also think it probably varies a lot depending on the juice (flavors ,vg or pg, how much of each and so on...)


if youre planning on using the juice in the nxt few months I wouldnt even bother with the fridge at all as others have said a cool dry dark place is fine...

It takes a good long while but juice does break bad. It's good for a very long time until one day it starts to get a funk. Once the funk sets in, it grows and then you need to get rid of it before it takes over your equipment. You think you can save it, but you can't. Just let it go.

I remember someone did a test a couple of years ago(Mad Vapes I think)....to test the nic levels in extreme temperatures(hot car in Texas in the sun)....and ageing on a shelf(it was still going on last time I checked 6 months ago).....and if I remember right the nic level dropped after a year, but so slightly it didn't make much difference....so my answer is no it doesn't expire...although it may change the flavor or nic levels.........

I don't think that premade liquids will go bad per say, like milk. I can say though that some at or after a year can get a bad taste. I had some that was over a year old and became extremely floral tasting, it was horrible. I think it all depends on the flavors and brands used, some get better with age and some reach a point of no return, every Zeus juice I had over a year was really strong and perfume like tasting.

of course it expires... if you buy juice and it wouldnt expire then you wont have to buy new juice until you use it all up... but that wouldnt be good for juice makers because you wouldnt have to throw away usable juice.. but since it "expires" now you have to go buy new juice sooner and more often than you need to....

I've been wondering this myself. 2 years ago I bought 2 liters of unflavored base with the intention of going DIY but things changed and I never got around to it. It's been in a cabinet in my kitchen since then, maybe I'll try it!
