Does the kind of clearomizer you use make any difference?

Other than making sure that the threads fit, is there any difference from one clearomizer to another? Also, while Googling around today, I saw wickless clearomizers. Do they work as well as the ones WITH wicks? Seems like they might be easier to deal with. I just bought an itaste v3 and it comes with 5, but I figure sooner or later I will need to replace them and want to get what will work best. Thanks for any help!

The delivery device makes ALL the difference. A battery just delivers the current (some more than others of course), but the clearo, carto, atty or tank does all the rest. As with everything else in this "hobby", everyone will have a different opinion on which one is best.

Thanks! I guess I will just have to buy and try...:)

"wickless" clearos are either
1) bottom coil clearos - wicks are at the bottom and really short.
2) wicks are sheated in a metal tubing with holes at the sides of tubes to allow juice to flow in.

As to how each performs, it rather depends on personal preference. Bottom coil clearos typically give a cooler vape and no tilting is required. May sometimes leak or gurgle. Top coil clearos require tilting to help the juice flow in some cases.

Different clearos from different manufacturers complicates the matter further if you're just starting out. Imo, you will likely have to try all of them out to see which you prefer.

When you start with a 510, you think it's the world. Then you bump to a single coil clearo and it blows 510 out of the water. Then you dabble into rebuildables and they smear everything else completely away.

All a matter of your preference and feeling content. If you feel like you're tired or not happy with your gear, bump up a step and see the difference.

That's where all the magic happens, and each one does it a little differently.

My first clearo was garbage, a cheaply built CE5-ish clone, died in a matter of a couple days, nothing could be done to repair/rebuild it. From the time before it died, I was pretty okay with what I was getting, figured maybe the juice I got was a little light on nic for me, good flavour, but not intense, just noticeable.

When it crapped out, I went and picked up an EVOD on recommendation from a friend, the improvement in vapor production, as well as flavor intensity, was incredible. Have 3 more on the way now.

I might try, and like something else in the future, too, maybe for different reasons... This is definitely a journey of discovery, mostly discovery of neat gadgets, but also how well the operation of those gadgets suit you at any given moment. ;>

The iclear 16 that comes with your V3 works very well. I happen to think that you'll be hard pressed to find anything better. Their only fault is the plastic tanks can be damaged by some liquids (citrus and hot cinnamon types mostly). Try a glass tank if you're into those flavors.

I agree. Get an evod, I loved it. 1.8 ohms is perfect for egos. I'd get a vv just to be sure (the kanger heads have bad qc, so some times they run a little high or low). I never had any problems (though they do leak if you wash them with scolding water....). They are good performers with pretty low maitnence and they are cheap, so get a few!

I bought an aerotank dual coil today and love it.
I've tried a bunch and the Aerotank is by far my favorite. I like it even better since I learned to rebuild the heads with a decent coil and cotton wicking. Once you've used cotton for a bit, silica seems crude and nasty. Moral: No matter how beat your head(s) get, do not throw them away. Soak 'em, let 'em dry, and keep them for a rainy day. Then get yourself a spool of 30 gauge Kanthal (~$10), a bag of organic cotton balls (even less) and you won't need to keep buying heads.

I am going to go against the popular opinion here and say that the clearo that you choose only PARTIALLY affects the quality of you vape. The more important factor with a clearo is the head you put inside it. Some heads from different brands are interchangeable. So for instance I personally use Smoktech ARO clearos because I like the large capacity and that glass so they are safe for all juices. However, I use Kanger MT3S heads in it instead of the actual ARO heads. I like those better for rebuilding. I can use those heads in ARO, EVOD, Pro Tanks, and more and the vapor is pretty close to the same in all of them. Using the same heads the only real difference between them might be airflow. I don't have as much experience with top coil clearos but I would imagine the experience between them would likely be similar. So really what you need to find is which heads you prefer, then figure out the best device that can use them.

Good advice but I would say 32ga wire would be better if they want coils in the 2.2-2.4ohm range.

Yep, if you want 'em that high. I'm at 1.8 ohms with about 8 wraps of 30 gauge on a 5/64" bit, which gives me a more durable coil and room for a bit more wick, which I find desirable for the bigger fire chamber of the dual coil Aerotank heads.

However, a 1/16" coil is easier to install 'cause a 1/16th bit will fit in the wick-slots. I think it's also a better fit for the smaller chamber of the single coil heads.

Thanks everyone for all the advice/info. I will work with the clearos that come with my kit first and see how that goes and then I gather as much as anything it is sort of hunt and peck to figure out what works best for you and whatever you are vaping. I will get at least one that is glass just in case I decide to vape something that will make a mess of the plastic ones. There is so much to learn...it was kind of easier to start smoking cigs, or at least it seemed that way 40+ yr ago, LOL!! I can't wait to see what comes next in this vaping journey!

I look at vaping equipment like a stereo. We'll compare the amplifier of a stereo to the battery of the e-cig. The speakers are the equivalent to the tank(clearo, carto, whatever). The speakers give the biggest difference in quality of sound in a stereo system. The amplifier has an important part but any amp can drive a speaker. The same goes for an e-cig. Any battery will drive a clearo. The clearo though is what produces the vapor. Some are better than others.

It comes down to finding what works best for you. If you can find other vapers then you'll be able to try different equipment without having to buy it first. If not then you're like most of us and have to pioneer your own way into the vape experience.

BTW.. Welcome fellow Pittsburgher
