This is an innokin iTaste EP. Sure looks like a pen to me. I have no issue with the nomenclature.

don't know about "bother", but i do think the term vape 'pen' sounds really dumb. Thought so the first time i ever heard it, and still think so, even though i know quite a bit more about vaping now. it's not anything LIKE a 'pen'; even if some of them do somewhat resemble one, thats not a reason to call it that - it's completely unrelated. I have less of a problem with 'electronic cigarette', though that's not my favorite term either, at least there's some kinda logic as to why that term was used when they were first invented.

and yes it also annoys me when people refer to vaping as smoking.... i've even heard quite a few new vapers call it that, even as they themselves vape - but in the interest of educating newbies without judgement, i might give someone a very small pass on that.... like, on their FIRST DAY, :D - or the first time someone sees someone vaping.

As far as non-vapers calling it that, even after having it explained what the difference is, but willfully refusing to take the point or understand the distinction... yah, that quickly goes from annoyance to full-on irritation.

Is it the terminology or the lack of others' appreciation of your vape journey, and the time and money spent?

We enjoy vaping and for many of us it's a hobby. For the average non-smoker, these are just a crutch to stop smoking, and they could care less.

Expecting people outside of the vaping community to appreciate our cool setups in any way is unrealistic. They likely would laugh at the elaborate setups some vapers feel snobbish about.

When I used mechanical tube mods I used to get vape pen. Now when I'm out and about with my reo I get "omg what in the world is that, it's so pretty" or once I tell them what it is "why did you spend so much money on something to smoke"

If anyone said that to me my first response would be "have you priced a carton of cigarettes lately? And THOSE only last about a week, sometimes less. This (pointing at my apv) will last for more than a year a the very least, probably more. Which is a better investment... and this is much healthier IMO."

This may sound a little arrogant on my part but this has been on my mind for quite a while and I just want to know how other vapers feel about it. I've been vaping for over 3 years now, much before it started getting a lot of attention, and the new marketing in the industry is really starting to annoy me. I think the biggest annoyance is the term "vape pen". Often times when I pull out my genesis mod which is usually paired with nothing more than a bolt, or sometimes my VV but I much prefer the mechanicals, noobs get all surprised and say things like "wow, is that a vaporizer pen?". I'm sure it has to do with the amount of pride I take in my vaping and the time I have put DIY liquids and mods, but I'm really starting to get annoyed. I usually just give them the look and just say yep, but what I want to say is that this is the result of years of trial and error which has finally resulted in a the best vape that I could produce for half the price I use to pay for cigarettes. I get the feeling that they would not be able to appreciate that.

I don't want to sound arrogant but I take a lot of pride in my vaping and it just feels like it's going a little too mainstream. Am I overreacting here or do others feel the same way?

There are products on the market that are vape pens, are marketed as such. What it is, is the general populace being uneducated and only knowing the very last thing they heard something referred to. So generalizing all devices etc as vape pens annoys me as well, however it is a logical term and is used for some devices correctly.
