You may wish to see the DIY section for more information about commonly used sweeteners in e-juice.

I DIY so I can cut the # of chemicals down a bit. That said, I also vape commercial juice on occasion. So...????

Everyone wonders once in a while. There was a big stink about diacetyl a while ago, for example.

People try to discuss it. But you never really know what's in a vendor's recipe. The flavoring is one of the biggest concerns. The quality of the nic extract is also often discussed. Some vendors even post test results of their nic.

In the end, it's the "best I can get" I guess. I can't stand unflavored e-juice personally. I hear you get used to it...but I need flavor to keep me off cigs and interested in vaping. I can rotate flavors every batch if I wish. Keeps my e-cig interest up and cig interest at bay.

I understand why people are looking for organic and natural products, but the flavoring is only makes up a small percentage of the juice. I do not know of anyone who makes organic vg. Therefore only 10-15% of your juice is actually organic. I wouldn't worry too much about sweetener. I think you can tell if it is artificial. You can always ask a vendor too.

For some reason I have been seeing a lot of this stuff. Yet if you are here that means you have been trying yo give yourself cancer for, ears without a care. Why the sudden worry that your being misled and making a huge mistake now.

I understand your point. On the other hand, if you think about it, it's a bit dualistic. Of course, that goes well with your "little devil" persona. ;)

The reply to that question is...."if I'm trying to get healthy, why not do my best?"

If we want to use e-cigs for harm reduction, it's OK to be concerned about any possible harm. That's the whole goal...harm reduction. Yes?

So just because I'm an addict and haven't been able to give up nic (and until e-cigs, smoking) doesn't mean that I shouldn't be concerned about e-juice. :)

Maybe it's more a matter of "degree of concern".

I find it ironic that the vast majority of Vendors have removed diacetyl from their juice YET the vast majority of microwave popcorn manufacturers have not removed diacetyl- this after being asked by the Govt yrs ago to remove it. Lottsa stuff out there that's gets the authority's seal of approval yet are known to be unhealthy for us. It's Buyer Beware for any and all things out there IMO.

Ejuice is generally a simple recipe that contains common cake and food flavorings, PG and/or VG, sometimes a touch of grain alcohol, water, and flavors that resemble the flavors of tobacco, fruit, or candy. Other than what's in the tobacco flavors I don't worry much about it. PG is an ingredient in SnoCone juice. It thickens the juice so it will stick to the ice. Google propylene glycol and foods and there are long lists of those that contain it.

PG and VG are in so many foods, drinks, makeups, and other items we consume daily that it's a moot point whether it's bad for us. The evidence would surface in so many ways that large segments of the general population would link reactions to the ingredients. The only difference is that we inhale them instead of eating them or rubbing them on our skin.

Pg is also in toothpaste and many other things. I use a 70/30 pg/vg mix and have not even had a cold in the last year and a half. I go on my results. Considering I used to spend roughly 7 days in bed sick twice a year I have to conclude vaping has something to do with it.

Getting OT here... I remember reading a study on ecigs, and one of the footnotes mentioned another study done decades ago (I think it was in the '40s) where they regularly put PG vapor into the room of one group of children, and no PG in the control group's room. They found that the kids that got the PG got sick much less. (Sorry for getting OT, but I thought it was interesting... and sort of crazy that they would have used children as guinea pigs back then).

I have often wondered this myself, thanks for asking. My main concern would be tooth decay from sweeteners. Then again, what could be as bad for your teeth as burning smoke?

For the experts - as to the sweeteners, does anyone know any effects of the sweeteners in e-liquid and blood sugar? I am thinking along the lines of the effects on diabetics. Thanks.

I'm sure there are numerous threads on the subject.

mostly dessert, sweet, and fruit vapes. Vaping has not caused my blood sugar to go up at all.i vape 3-5 mls a day.

X2. I vape 80/20 and have not had a cold for over 2.5 years now. I smoked for 28 years and had a minimum of 2 colds a year! See link for all you ever wanted to know a PG and its germ killing powers when in vapor form. The study is old but thorough and I am surprised that there is not that much interest. Imagine if a disposable non nic pg vaporizer was made available to all. It could help stop many colds by taking one puff a day to protect yourself. Cheap and effective but we will never see it since there are billions to made in over the counter cold remedies!

For us vapers i guess we can throw "sick time from work" into the saving calculations :)

Have you ever actually tasted straight PG or VG? They are both "sweet" without using standard sugars.

This is very true. I'm vaping unflavored 70 VG/30 PG from MadVapes, and it has a mild sweet taste. I keep my tank topped up, and the clearo darkens the juice as I vape, making it a little bit sweeter. If I'm feeling wild & crazy, I'll toss a droplet of grape flavored juice in there, but I don't do that too often anymore.

I started off with flavored juices, but some of them, such as cinnamon, can be a bit irritating for my nose & throat. The only issue I have with unflavored is when I vape too much without drinking water, it dries out my throat.

So, I guess the short answer to your question would be: VG/PG is already somewhat sweet with nothing added. Took me a long time to get there, didn't it??

Add a little extra Zinc to your diet and vape to ward off colds! I like it (the zinc was my addition).

I keep a few bottles of Lorann flavorings around for the times when I want something new. My favorite additions to a bland juice are Vanilla Butternut and Key Lime. If you add a couple of drops to a 2ml tank it mixes easily by rotating the tank. For cartos, you have to pre-mix. For those who vape plain PG or VG it's a good alternative. At least you know what you added.
