Does vaping cause wheezes? Like in asthma?

Hi! I bought my e cig maybe two weeks ago. I havent used it that much coz it gives me some kinda wheezes everytime i vape it. I bought two flAvors, a 12 mg and an 18 mg and even used glycerine usp to lower the content of the 18 mg, i cant vape too long coz the wheezes really bothers me. But everytime i light up a cigarette im not having that wheezes. I'm afraid i might give up vaping and just sell my ecig, i dont want to think that its just a waste of money.Any advice guys? Thanks alot!

I am thinking if the wheezing is related to juices, you may have to try a juice that's 100% PG & one that's 100% VG.
The juices you're currently vaping we dont know the PG/VG ratio of them. Also could be that 12 & 18mg is too high for you.

There's no concrete fix to what we can offer in a way that would stop the wheezing. It would be a process of elimination.
Also, what ecig are you using? What topper/tank are you using?

I have a friend that was experiencing the same thing but she didn't want to take the time to figure out what could be causing it so she went back to smoking cigarettes (hard for me to say analogs since I never called them that when I was smoking).

This is a curious topic for me. Thank you for posting it!

I have read about allergic reactions, or sensitivities, to the ingredients to some juices. Where ever you are getting your juice from, ask about the specific ingredients used in the flavoring as that could be the problem.

I have also read that some people have sensitivities to VG and PG or outright allergic reactions to them. Both are main ingredients in the juices.

Now, don't take me for a pro here, I am only going by what I have read around here on the forum. I am trying to get as much information as I can about "The Vaping Experience".

I have only been vaping for about two months now. So far no sensitivities, except when the juice comes in contact with my face. I break out in a rash.

(okay, how that happened was: I had it on my fingers, and an itch occurred -naturally- on my cheek, and I itched it!). It only took less than a minute for the burning and the burning rash was there for a few days. I treated it like an abrasion; immediately cleansed it, and kept it clean.

The wheezing thing, I am curious about though... Did you smoke regular or "analog" cigarettes for a long time before vaping? I smoked for 41 years, I was diagnosed with oncoming COPD 6 months ago. I am not experiencing wheezing, but I am really only down to like two "analog" cigarettes a day now, I am trying to make the next day (I say it every day) a vape day only... All I can do is go one day at a time. Hey, I am not smoking 1 - 2 packs a day any more! :)

I am curious about the caramel and other flavors that are based on "food items" made from milk products, if they have some milk products in them. There are many "hidden" forms of dairy that many are not aware of (I have a sister who is DEATHLY allergic to milk products, so I am well aware of them). So if someone has a dairy sensitivity, the dulce du leche (which is caramel, basically) may make you have a reaction of some sort... and since you are ingesting it through vaping, wheezing may be the reaction your body is exerting as a warning to you about it. THIS IS ONLY AN OBSERVATION OF PROBABILITY BASED ON WHAT I KNOW ABOUT ALLERGIC REACTIONS FROM DAIRY... DO NOT PANIC... DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A DIAGNOSIS. PLEASE. I want to know, too. --Besides, I am an artist, not a med professional.

I am a new forum member who has been vaping for about a month. When my husband and I first started vaping, we were at the cigarette store with full intention of buying our weekly carton of cigarettes - and instead of buying cartons of cigarettes, we bought the Zig Zag brand of e cigarette with their juice 18mg. We both choked like crazy trying to vape that. We then went to a vaping store, on the advice of our son, who had been vaping for months, and bought a set of Evod doohickies with some of their in store mixes and started from there. I had a problem still with the stronger nicotine, so cut mine back. I only offer this because I believe it was the harshness of the ejuice that made our experience horrible to the point we almost went back to "analogs" . . . (See I read the New Member Forum hints lol). We have since upgraded from the small Evods to other devices (of which I have no clue about other than hubby said - here ya go!). I am learning.

Too much glycerin can be heavy on the chest and cause some scary feeling (I used to try vaping just glycerin).

Don't give up and don't get rid of the ecig for a few months.

Finding something that works for you can be a bit of a chase, but it's out there.

What ecig did you get?

I vape mostly 100% PG down to 80pg/20vg and occasionally 70pg/30vg. If I vape juices that are more than 50%vg I start to sense some heaviness in my breathing that goes away when I return to more PG. You might want to try 100%pg just to see if the wheezing clears up.

Vaping has the tendency to be an irritant. Anything that's not plain old air is foreign to the lungs. Too much of a good thing (vaping) can be not so good to the lungs. The recommended "safe" way to vape is to draw a hit into the mouth, inhale slightly, and exhale through the nose. You get all the nic from absorption through the mucous membranes, unlike smoking where the lungs actually can inhale products of combustion that include tiny particles of ash coated with nicotine.

Cigarette smoke has a deadening effect on lung tissue. That's why you can smoke and not feel the irritation so much unless you overdo it. Vaping is droplets of mist that tend to stick to and coat the bronchial tubes. Not all of it makes its way to the air sacs that absorb gases and the nic.

To lessen the irritation, hit lightly when you inhale and hit it heavy when you want the nic hit, but inhale just enough to be able to exhale through the nose. Technically, we can get all the nic we need just by inhaling into the mouth, holding it for a few seconds, and exhaling.

Tips from Rolygate, our forum manager.

back when I quit smoking and began vaping I got the same thing as you, did my research and found out that a lot of folks with asthma that quit smoking (REGARDLESS IF THEY GO COLD TURKEY, PATCHES, VAPING OR ANYTHING) they develop more accute asthma for a while, the theory goes that as you smoked your lungs are dulled by the smoke so they aren't as responsive, but once they begin to get healthy they begin to behave like normal lungs with asthma (overeacting to every particle) hence you get a lot of asthma but it tends to go away once your lungs settle on the good old clean air!

now besides that point there are some juices that do trigger asthma than others (for me MBV's lemonade)

and also VG at first made my lungs feel heavy; and PG made my mouth dry so I started with 80pg/20vg and went little by little, I now vape 25pg/75vg and love it

Aspects of it have caused me definite asthma like problems. First was PG - gave me all the documented problems including not being able to breathe. Felt as though my lungs were blocked. I changed to VG, then found I got the same type of breathing problems with certain types of vanilla/custard, and it can get so bad that my lungs can feel as though they've turned to concrete.
In time, I discovered more flavours that can cause me problems: bleeding gums/throat and breathing problems with certain custard type flavours (not all), breathing problems with certain fruits, cinnamon, butter etc.
I also developed a problem with VG making me wheeze if I inhale too much. It's sometimes hard to work out if it's VG, flavours, or the PG in the flavouring! I now try not to inhale into my lungs.
If I get too much PG in flavourings in my max VG liquids, I get the same problems again including a rash on my face and very sore gums/aching teeth.

Butter and the Dulce de Leche do contain irritants: https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/c-154-chocolate-vanilla-flavors.aspx

The irritants are explained better here:https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/t-FlavorWorkshopCustard.aspx

Use the information on those pages to try and avoid any flavours that contain known irritants, and see if your problems go away.
If not, try changing the base liquid (VG or PG) to see if you can find one that gives you no problems, or a mix of both that does agree with you.

There's a huge thread here about the diacetyl and associated substances:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...s-may-contain-diacetyl-there-really-many.html

One way or another, now that I'm more aware of the things that irritate me or affect my lungs, I can work around it. Stick with it and try to work out what it is that causes your problems.

If you're only two weeks in, give it some more time. I'm a newbie here, but I quit about a month ago to start vaping, and have been a lurker around here for a few weeks. The wheezing, especially while laying down has almost ceased completely at this point for me, after 20 years as a pack a day smoker. Only 100% vg from Velvet cloud vapor, so far has treated me well. So many flavors to try, don't stop at 2! You just probably haven't found your vg/pg mix and/or flavor pref yet. It took me a lot of experimenting. Keep at it, screw the analogs!

This is why I asked if you were still smoking cigarettes. I've quit several times in my smoking career and every time (with vaping or without) I get asthma, wheezing and lots of phlegm. It could be your lungs healing and getting back to normal, especially if you've cut back your cigarettes a lot. For me it hangs on for 2-3 months and then poof! one day I'm back to normal but feel better than great from quitting. If trying different juice %'s doesn't make a difference and you're still wheezing I'd give it some time, a couple months to see if it goes away on it's own.
