The flavors and the vapor coating your throat, along with the nicotine will make you dry. It is always good to drink water, and it is even more so important to do when vaping. If you feel the effects of too much nicotine (sweating, headache, shaking, etc.), chugging cold water helps bring you back to normal. I work in a voice over studio, so I am talking and vaping all day-I am pounding water as often as I am vaping...which is to say, often.

Plus, caffeinated soft drinks (as well as alcoholic beverages) are diuretics, which means that they cause you to expel more water than you take in, causing dehydration, and attempting to hydrate oneself via dehydration is a very poor idea.

This is not entirely true, alcoholic beverages do indeed dry you out but a fairly recent study (within the last 10 years) took on the "caffeinated" beverage claim and measured amounts of urine expelled versus water only. The differences were minimal at best, often no difference. The conclusion was hydration with tea, coffee or other caffeinated beverage is good hydration. Obviously water is best but for many water is boring and they won't drink it so if your concern is hydration drink what you enjoy. If the issue is adding sugar, sugar substitutes, etc...is not good for us I agree but if we are merely discussing hydration, forget the diuretics/caffeine conversation. They absolutely do not cause dehydration. That info is from a 1928 study and has been determined a myth.

well studies or not ever since i was pregnant with my son many years ago water has given me heartburn

i do not drink water and hydrate very well on coffee and tea -- my 2 main drinks

I can't stand water, imagine my delight when I learned studies had shown what my body had proven to be true years prior to the study. Fluid intake is fluid intake, except alcohol which does dry you out. Of course I took the comment of Royal Crown as one of sarcasm so didn't go off the depend about it. I too drink coffee, tea and the occasional *gasp* soda. :toast:

it's the vg, the pg, the flavor, the nicotine... vaping in general makes you thirsty, because it coats your throat with the vapor and what's in it. i haven't experience less of a thirst from pure vg liquids in comparison to vg/pg mixtures.

nothing wrong with drinking water, though. i always have a bottle on me, and i'm filling it up constantly.

Cigarettes always made me thirsty.

I had a bad diet soda habit. About a 24-pack of diet cokes every week, if not more. Since I started vaping and dieting I've replaced diet soda with hot tea at home and water at work. I still feel "dry" a lot of the time though.

The more water you drink the healthier you will feel, period - even if you're not vaping you should be drinking as much water as you can handle. I might pee every hour on the hour (TMI, I know) but I'm still flushing nasty cigarette chemicals (and soda chemicals, and all kinds of other crap) out of my body.

are you using a black/green/white tea, or an herbal tea?

I know black tea is a very strong diuretic (also depending on how strong you make it but it will have a diuretic effect at any level.) Not sure about green or white tea.

Herbal teas (unless it's from a plant that is a diuretic) are not typically a diuretic. Something to keep in mind if you're drinking black tea that you may want to switch to an herbal (which is good because there's so many herbals it switches the flavor up too.)

I'm drinking a soda right now as a treat to myself, so I'm not completely anti-soda but the sodium levels in most sodas do affect the body's relationship with water-- I know it causes bloating and I'm not sure what happens then-- the body because of the sodium decides to hold on as much water, thus "water weight", as possible, but then I'm not sure if it actually uses that water or just holds onto it. It's possible that if the body is just holding onto the water waiting for more water to come along and flush the sodium so it can let go of that water weight, the soda's not actually doing anything to hydrate you.

I know I get super-puffy when I have soda (also exacerbated when I pair it with a sodium-rich food which soda tastes sooo good with) by itself or with something else, and for me personally-- I don't feel hydrated after having soda. In fact, the opposite. I have to drink a bunch of water after having soda because my body starts to have that low-level stress feeling of dehydration.

I started out with higher %PG and found that it did cause me dry throat and dehydration. Then started adding my own VG smoothed it out. Now I make my own and I prefer 66%PG 37%VG works for me. but If I order ejuice then I will request 100%PG at the highest nic level and add VG to reduce it down to the nic level I like.

Hm. I never noticed a difference. Although I am a big time water drinker. That may be the case. I've always got water near me. I drink a ton of it at work (I avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks, I just can't handle them anymore).

I'm with you, also quit drinking coffee too!

I used to spit a lot as a smoker (like between nearly every drag) so i think i had a well developed salivating reaction by the time i started vaping hence why i never felt any dryness from it.
I normally vape 80%PG 20%VG and drink around 1-2l of fluids a day(unless i got some major physical activity).

PS! i dont spit anymore because its gross, i only spat because swallowing tar filled saliva was even more gross.
