Done with Trustfires!!

I've been using these for a long, long time. The 14500 flame Trustfires. I need something better, something more reliable, something that gives a better hit. I have my homemade AA box (still going strong) and madvapes VV box. The VV box seems to kill 2 14500 TFs seriously quick.

Think I'm gonna give the AW IMR 14500 (red) a try and maybe the AW grey protected 14500s a try. Had a lot of good memories with the Trustfires, but I need more reliability and stronger throat hit!

I don't wanna give up my AA box. It's been reliable and sturdy for well over a year, maybe longer. 18650s are just too dang big for me to be carrying around.

Don't blame the Trustfires...the MV VV box will kill any set of batteries seriously quick...the NCP630A regulator that comes with that kit is a linear regulator, as opposed to the switching regs that a lot are using now...without getting into a lot of tech, switching regs are far more efficient than linear regs in giving you much more bang out of your batteries buck...I have IMR's, Trustfire's and a couple Ultrafire batts, I also have a vv mod that I made with the MV reg and many mods made with switching regs...doesn't really matter what batts I put in the MV reg mod, it just chews through them...

Really? I thought I had either gotten too used to 3.7v or TF came down in quality. Dang I really liked the VV idea to. Guess I'll be looking for a more effecient VV box then, thanks!

I'm done building boxes now..think I'll grab a Varicool or something!

Ah!...b00stzx3, I wasn't meaning to discourage you from building another vv mod (hope I didn't)...the MV VV mod is a great way to cut your teeth, just keep building another vv box in the back of your mind and when you want to take another crack at it, there are some decent easy to work with switching regs mentioned on here and lots of good people to help out with the questions...

Ah no not at all! Just once word got out I built them and built them well (the AA boxes), I probably made 100 or sore for friends, friends of friends, etc. I need all the energy I can get to fix my American car everytime something goes wrong haha.

I hope Madvapes knows this and has made a change of design cuz I'm pretty loyal to them.

The IMR batts have less capacity. Their big advantage is much higher drain limit which comes into play when using low resistance atomizers or boosters. Don't use the IMR batts unless you have a specific need for them.

The difference between the AW batteries and TrustFire or Ultrafire is that AW uses the higher quality Japanese cells where the other brands use Chinese cells. The AW batteries are assembled in China, but they start with the good cells then add the contacts, protection PCBs, and shrink wrap on a Chinese assembly line.

As far as performance, you probably won't see a marked difference in run time between AW and the others, but since the quality is higher with AW, you'll see less variation between one cell and the next and you're less likely to get one that's defective.

Keep in mind that Li-Ions lose capacity as they wear. That translates to shorter run time on a charge. A standard Litium Cobalt Li-Ion is good for around 300 full charge-discharge cycles where it reaches 40% of its original charge capacity.

The difference between a standard (linear) regulator and a switching regulator is around 90% efficiency compared to around 70% efficiency (at typical voltages). So, you should expect to see around 20% longer run time when using a switching regulator compared to a standard regulator.

I have a MV vv box mod and it's not a bad box for an inexpensive way to experience vv vaping. One day, I plan to buy a Provari. I just refuse to spend that kind of money for something that won't slip into my pocket easily. Something made well with an 18650 (single) battery will be my next choice. After the Florida accident reported recently, I'm not too fond of a stacked battery mod.

Til then, it's a eGo with a Boge LR carto. I'm perfectly happy with it.

Thanks for the info all!! I feel dumb...seems if I toggle the kill switch, it lets me vape again. Guess it didn't eat through batteries as quickly as I thought it did. Still kinda PITA every time I wanna hit but hits harder than 3.7v AA box everytime with the switch turns a little bit to the left. Think I have an older designed one since I bought it a year ago. Need a muiltimeter to find the "sweet spot" but suspect it's about 5v. Will have to research and see all these wild new products that are coming out. I remember when 901s and cartridge mods were all the rage!
