It's a common sense thing, but this seems to happen all the time, even to myself. I do use plastic battery cases. But one time I put a battery in my pocket because my hands were full, thinking that the pocket was empty. Lo and behold, I got the same fire in the pocket sensation within a couple of minutes. There was some loose change in the pocket. I was able to remove the battery and throw it into the sink and turn on the water. The battery could be heard hissing while it vented. Obviously it was ruined and disposed of.

There are new people joining our ranks every day.
Vaping is still rather new and a lot more complex then smoking.
I wish some of the more popular reviewers would do some safety videos. We are taught from childhood that playing with matches and lighters is bad but who taught you how to properly handle nichotine juice and lithium batteries?

Not at all; carbon batteries are relatively harmless, even when shorted. It'd kill the battery, but that was a simple lesson.

Lithium cells pack a lot more power, enough to make coins glow. Laptop and cell phone batteries usually have some kind of plastic ridges, to prevent a short, so they don't help us learn...

These cells are uncontained, unpackaged, and very much exposed.

Then I guess I'm just an assbrain with no common sense.... I sure didn't give it a second thought. I'm so thankful for all the Einsteins on ECF!

I sense sarcasm, lol.

I'm glad you posted. People need to know this information. To some it seems like common sense, but if you are not familiar with what a short is and how to avoid one, you can have a terrible accident. Even if you are a battery expert, you can still have a moment of forgetfulness and make this mistake. Thanks for posting your experience. I'm sure it was a good warning for many.

:2c: Count your blessings that is was in your pants pocket where you could actually feel the heat right away!!! :2c:

Just imagine if it were, let's say, in a jacket pocket you hung up in the closet @ home or placed out of your line of sight (there goes the house)... or you threw the jacket in the back seat of your car when you parked it (there goes the car)... or you parked the car in the garage (there goes the car and the house)... or worse yet, in the back seat of the car while you are doing 80 mph down the interstate (there goes your life as you veer into on coming traffic with a giant fireball in your back seat)...

Just saying
