before you throw away your laptop you should remove the battery out and disassembled it , you will found several (6-9) sony , sanyo , panasonic 18650 batteries / 17670 batteries , this batteries are unprotected but are magnificent 
even an old laptop dead battery some cells are still good to charge , and you have nothing to lose
