What type of PV are you using? From my understanding, if you are using a mechanical mod, without a safety fuse, with low drain batteries, on a low ohm coil the possibility of your battery failing is there. I'm sure there are other unsafe methods, but so far that is what I gathered from my research. I'm sure someone who knows more than me will be in here shortly to clarify.

I'm looking to getting into dripping and rebuilding. Is there any chance of frying my battery or it blowing up in my face? I'm kinda partial to my face is like to keep it so Amy help would be appreciated, thanks.

Use a multimeter to test the resistance of your coil or screw it onto a device that will tell you the resistance. The problem comes from using sub ohms on mechanical mods and not knowing what you are doing. I coil my Igo-L rda for around 1.8-2.5 resistance and run it on a Vamo, works like a champ and have not worries about being mauled by a thermal battery.

Sounds easy enough to keep it out of sub ohms. The igo-L was the rda I was looking to purchase also. Do you have any recommendations on a good wick material and wire?

Haven't tried using it on an ego battery but with VV I'm sure it can be done, battery won't last as long as an 18650/350. I use 30g kanthal and ekowool, wrap about 10 times in a microcoil and get 2.0-2.5 ohms.

You shouldn't have to worry much about exploding your ego mega, generally most of the VV/VW devices won't let it fire if you have a sub 1.5ohm coil in it. Really the big concern comes from using the mech mods with a sub ohm coil, on a low drain battery. Def get a multimeter if you don't already as the dude stated, to check your coil prior to slapping it on your ego. I also use the 30g kanthal wire, and I have been trying a few different wicking materials, as it seems to come down to preference. I have really been liking Aunt Lydias natural bamboo crochet thread.

I'm going to pick up some bamboo this weekend, what are you opinions on it, say compared to cotton.

It's kind of a toss up, they both seem to wick amazingly. The big advantage for bamboo for me is the ease of threading the coil with it. I have been using the sterilized cotton balls and I find it to be a bit of a pain to thread at times. The bamboo i can loop through my makeshift threader(a piece of kanthal twisted on itself with an open loop at the end) and easily pull it though my coil. I make my coils by wrapping a 4-40 machine screw for reference. Nice and even wraps that way. Now if you are one of those freehand coil wrappers I can't see this being much of an advantage for you.

As far as performance is concerned I feel they both wick amazingly, and I find the flavor to be better on both the cotton and bamboo as opposed to silica. Not to mention the price is a whole lot better. Only downside I can see for the bamboo is the required boiling and drying before use, which is only a minor inconvenience.

I use a 1/16 drill bit to wrap coils for cotton, will eventually use it in my RDA but ekowool has been working really well and I don't have to worry about frying my wick.
