well, my dad listened to that old timey country music (and i have come to enjoy it myself), and back in the day in the world of country and western, thats what they used to call it, songs were passed around like a collection plate in church.

i can still remember when a musician my dad liked would come up in conversation he'd put on an over exaggerated hill-billy accent and say
"yepum, he be real good can play both kinds of music country and western"

My Nana used that line to tease my favorite of her boyfriends (she stayed busy 'til the day she died:laugh:). I hadn't thought about him for so long:closedeyes:. Thanks for that and for a little added glimpse of your earlier days, Moon:).

"Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out"

Bessie Smith

Emmy Rossum

Nina Simone

Leadbelly

Otis Redding

Sam Cooke

Janis Joplin

The Spencer Davis Group

Derek and the Dominos

Pat Travers

Duane & Gregg Allman

Tom Jones

Rod Stewart

Richard Pryor

Justin Townes Earle

Every one here does a pretty good job in their on right making it their own, but I guess thats the beauty of the blues, Rod Stewart takes it kinda to a disco-ey level kinda wish he would have done in more of His "faces" rock style but it is an interesting twist on it none the less.

Moon, no kidding, I came here to take on "Nobody Know You When You're Down And Out", and it's the first song you did since I last checked in:ohmy:!?! Ah, coincidences are fun:). My dad is trying to learn it on his synthesizer (harder since his stroke), and he's listening to Eric Clapton's version from the Unplugged album over and over again -

And you did notice there is a guitar lesson there too???

Do you and dad ever play songs together?

I absolutely did, Moon, and I'm gonna teach myself this fantastic song! Thank you:closedeyes:. The ones I go with are ones I don't mind hearing a billion times over, and I've found this is one of those since my dad is already doing just that. Nope on the duets with Dad. Sorry to say, just too much shpilkus with him to be quite so warm and fuzzy. Ah, family junk...please say that we all have it...
