EDIT:

THE LINK is for the Jan 15 2010 Dr Edell Show.
--> HERE
Fast forward exactly 16 mins 50 secs for the ecig story. (where Dr Edell goes after the FDA for the ban)

Many Thanks to tarheeldan who transcribed the first section. Hope to get second section tonite. Check back!

Here's the FIRST PART:

"All right, let's switch to, uh, cigarettes here.

FDA has been STOPPED from blocking importation of e-cigarettes. A federal judge said the FDA cannot stop shipments of electronic cigarettes.

It's complicated from the point of view of the law but I'm not so sure why we're such tight-butts about electronic cigarettes.

It's ok to buy cigarettes and kill yourself, but here's a product would be very unlikely you could harm yourself and might get people to quit smoking, and everybody gets up in arms. It's kind of like when we came out nicotine..in patch and pill..and they wanted it to be available only by prescription.

Mind you, you know, if you're tall enough to reach the counter you can walk into any store in America and buy cigarettes. And if you wanted to buy a nicotine product the Fed's wanted you to have a prescription which would make
sure not a lot of you would have access to it.

And, basically, the lawsuit was successful by claiming that this IS a cigarette. It's a stick, you put it in your mouth, and it gives you nicotine.

So why is that different from a cigarette? And why do we have special and different rules for it? I, um, well we'll see if there is an impact. Most of these (e) cigarettes come from China and there are some health questions about it, but boy if you're a smoker and anything can help you, am I really gonna, you know, make a big deal about it?"

I will edit this post and add the second part up top as soon as we have the transcript.

THE LINKS AND TRANSCRIPT FOR THE 2009 TALK SHOW ARE BELOW, UP TO PAGE 2, (as opposed to the 2010 one.)
Sorry for the confusion - MY  noob errors!

ENJOY!

Here is the transcription, for people who cant listen to it.

"Hi everybody welcome back to the program, lets talk to Rose, "How are ya doing rose?" "Oh um, I have smoked for 20 years, and I have recently tried to quit, and I was replacing the cigarettes with food, because I have heard so many people that gain 70 lbs when they quit (which is not going to happen), Anyways, I bought an electronic cigarette, and now I am hearing on CNN and stuff, that they have strictnine in them, ammonia in them, what do you think?"

Uhh boy, lets talk about the logic here.. Because the feds require a prescription, and they require you to go through all kinds of hoops if I want to market something to help you quit smoking. Here is THE WORST personal habit a person can have in terms of their health right? And if I want to come up with a nicotine gum, oh my gosh, they have made it so hard, now you can get these things over the counter, but they have made it so tough.. So an electronic cigarette would have to be SO toxic to even come close to what cigarettes would do to you, im not sure what all of the belly aching is all about. But here is what is going on, because i was actually going to do this the next story in my monologe and we just ran out of time, and we have the article here. Here is where its all coming from.

Electronic cigarettes contain traces of toxic substances and carcinogens, traces remember, according to preliminary analyisis. Now, this counters the claims of electric cigarette manufactures, that products are safe, that its an alternative, which contain little more than water vapor, nicotine and proplyne glycol, which creates the artificial smoke, umm, and it produces a little vapor inhaled through a battery powered device. Now the anaylasis, found that several of the cartreges contained detectable levels of nitrosamine, DETECTABLE levels of nitrosamines, yes there is nitrosamines in tobacco, yes we think nitrosamines which you find in hotdogs and sausages also might cause cancer, but NOT LIKE CIGARETTES DO... One cartrage was found to contain dyetheline glycol, well thats kinda an antifreeze ingrediant found in alot of foods. Counterfietters have used used dyetheline glycol in toothpaste. Umm so, there is some politcal deal there. The electronic cigarette association industry trade group said in a statement that the FDA testing was too narrow to reach any valid and reliable conclusion, etc etc.. I still think the product, they are going to have to beat me over the head to say its anywhere near as dangerous as cigarettes and the question is weather they will help you get off of cigarettes, weither they deliver enough nicotine. And here is a company.. I cant speak for this except they shot me a press release, the company is called smoke stick. Umm, and most of these electronic cigarettes come from china. This company, say that none of the compounds that they found in the chinese versions are found in the smoke stick. The CEO of the company, says, umm blah blah blha, imported from ... our ingredients are imported from certified labratories, do not contain any of the carcinogens found in the FDA report..

You know, What can i tell ya, what is the FDA saying? KEEP SMOKING?!?! I dont know why they, this is all or none, just say no type of deal, which is the way our culture acts in this type of deal. Oh yes, lets do testing, lets find out whats in them etc etc.. but HELLO MR FDA, you allow cigarettes on the market, you think its ok, you allow them, they are poison they kill people. So whats all the belly aching about this particular product, how can you hold this product to a higher standard than you do cigarettes?"

Thats the jist of it, I may have missed a umm or a blahblah or a etc in there, but the basis is there.. and excuse the grammar and the spelling.
