Is this a big no no? Obviously I hate punching cartos! And trying to get my chibi tanks working right! What's to difference from punching cartos and drilling cartos? Of you slot them or drill then what can be the difference? Curious. As long as you just still the hole and obviously not still thru it. Anyone try this?

For me I only use a saddle valve to punch my cartos. I don't have a fancy rotary tool and special bits to make a slot, nor do I have the extra money or time to spend making a hole in a carto. The $7 saddle valve takes 1 second and is as easy as could be. It's been working great! Over 50 cartos punched and still going strong.

Ya have to be very careful drilling cartos. Go a touch too deep and ya got filler material wrapped 'round da bit. Saddle valve for me!

Great device! I have two styles and this one works the best...

The Saddle Valve method works ok. The needle in my saddle valve has such a gradual taper that once you pierce it and get it to the right size the needle can sometimes pierce the air tube in the center of the carto causing it to flood and gurgle. I use several different methods depending on the thickness of my juices. If I plan on using a thicker VG juice I will use a cutoff wheel on my dremel to make a big slit. Thinner juices I usually start with a saddle valve to make a pilot hole then drill it out from there and sometimes make more than 1 hole. There a big learning curve with carto punching, plan on ruining several before you get it completely figured out. :)

i punch mine. but hey whatever works right. The reason i chose to punch is this and understand i may not have a clue what i am talking about its just a feeling. Drilling, you lay said carto down and push drill into side, ok easy enough but having used a drill since i was a kid i can tell you its easy to slip. I can just see me now down to my last carto trying to drill, push to hard and the bit pops through the other side. destroying the air tube in the center and maybe even trashing the coil.

Slotting with a dremal, well those buggers move really fasy (even the cheap ones). Would be way to easy to slip and cut the carto in half or damage the coil. Even if all of that did not happen, you now have metal dust in your carto. I dont know if that could or would short the coil, but i certainly would not want to be vaping it into my body.

Nope a punch is the best way for me. For a mere $6 i bought a saddle valve. It is easy to use and the chance of a mishap is small. Down the road i am intent on buying one of them there fancy carto punches i hear them city fellers talking about lol

Like i said thats just my nickels worth, but use what you got to. Hey man if i had to i think i would chew a hole in the side of the carto to get my vape on lol

I agree, I have tried the slots, screw and hammer and the worst is a drill, the drill will catch the filler material and wad it up so it will not wick worth a dang after that. I use the saddle valve only now, with only one hole and they work great.

A very similar saddle valve as pictured can be found on ebay. Search for C-frame in the description. It's $6.99 with free shipping and more then 10 avalable.

I laughed about drilling them. I use to work for Boeing so I've drilled millions of holes thru metal. I tried it, using a drill stop, some boelube and it really twisted/shreded up the filling even though the bit barely penetrated the carto. I still got some use out of it because I sorta of shoved it all back in there. Try this at home for kicks but not for a reliable method by any means.

COV Carto Punch has a nice unit, but a bit on the pricey side. basically a compact saddle valve.

I have one of these and the hole it makes is only big enough for juice blends that are 50% or more PG.
Make two holes won't help, either. The problem is the bubble that forms during vaping doesn't want to "leave" the hole(s) because of surface tension / viscosity issues. This blocks the liquid from entering the carto. You have whack the side of the tank HARD to make the bubble leave the hole. No fun.

For example: with my Boge 3.0 carto, I had to slot it with a dremel in order to run Ms T's Snickerdoodle in a tank. FWIW, her Snickerdoodle is so good it is worth the time to dremel a slot. I wouldn't do that work for just any old juice. :)
