I have a saddle valve, but I found that it compresses my cartos too much and then makes it harder for them to wick.

I switched to using a dremel with a cheap diamond wheel to slot the carto.

Works great. It's fast (I can slot a 5 pack in oh... maybe 5 minutes) and I can just hold the carto in my hand while I dremel it. My dremel has three speeds, and I use medium. That's fast enough to not take forever, and slow enough that I don't risk going too far and messing up the filler. Some people worry about the metal dust that it creates. I wipe mine off, but I'm not too concerned about any that might be left over.

I guess I do it the ghetto way bc I just put the carto in a vice and then use a finishing nail and hammer. Then you can make the hole as big as you need for the juice you want to use. I just punched two holes in one yesterday and it feeds Bobas Bounty which is 100%VG and quite thick perfectly.

I have used a saddle valve though and do agree that they work well. Im just too cheap to buy my own since a hammer and finishing nail provides the same results

I have tried punching with a saddle valve and also drilling. For drilling, I used the saddlevalve to just break thru then drill it out with a small drill. It left minimal tube distortion. Doing this with 2 cartos worked great, but on the third one I went to deep and wrecked the stuffing. So I went back to using just the punch, and every once in a while take it apart and dress up the point on the needle.
