Hi

I use plain 510 and 306 attys for dripping. I haven't seen any 306s on FT and only one item that looked like it might be a regular 510 atty. I have nothing against FT, but if I can't be certain it's what I want, I don't want to waste my money, even if it's cheap. Digital Ciggz is having a sale on 510 attys: Joyetech 510 Atomizer 5-Pack (2.3ohm) | DigitalCiggz.com

I have a blog about dripping you might find of interest: Drip, Drip, Drip…

To continue the story, I purchased one from my local B&M and I have not been happy with it or I just don't know how to use it. It has no name or identification on it but it looks just like the one in the u-tube video "How to Drip a 510 Atomizer How to Drip a 510 Atomizer - YouTube

If you look down inside it you can see the top of the coil with wick material wrapped around it. The coil is visible. When I try to drip with it it goes from flooded to burnt tasting in one drag. When I blow it out and clean in water the wick gets saturated and you can't really use it until it dries out overnight. I do dry burn it after use. B&M told me to use 5-6 drops but I have backed off to 3. What am I doing wrong.

Does the 510 have wick material around the coil?

Yes (actually the coil is wrapped around the wick, but whatever). That is how a dripping atty is designed, although you can get bridgeless &/or dewicked ones. I have illustrations in my blog.

You can't see the wick in the madvapes picture because the bridge is over it.

Mine has nothing that looks like a "bridge". When you look down inside it you just see a coil. Very obvious when you dry burn. What is the "bridge" made out of. The wick wraps all the way around the outside diameter of the Cup/Resevoir (alot of wick material). Doesn't look like your Mad Vapes picture.

Sounds like I need to get a 510 and try it.

It sounds like you have bridgeless. The steel mesh bridge has been removed, so all you have left is the coil and the reservoir. The first time I ever dripped I had a dewicked bridgeless atty. I didn't understand what it was when I bought it. I took one look at the coil and freaked out! It looked like an electric stove coil! I learned to vape before I found ECF and it was a lot of trial and error.

Some people really like bridgeless, they say the flavor is stronger, but you also have to drip more often because there is no mesh to keep the coil wet. I prefer a little less flavor over potentially having more dry hits (I sometimes forget I'm dripping and just vape it like I would something else). It takes a bit of practice, but once you get it, you got it. I'm dripping right now.

Yes. Not exactly but that that is it.

They can vary a little bit depending on the manufacturer, but the plain ones (like these) all work the same. You drip either onto the mesh or directly onto the coil if there is no mesh. The drops of liquid that aren't immediately vaporized go down to the cup where the wick delivers it to the coil.

The pre-installed mesh is metal, but I'm not sure what kind it is. The folks who build their own often use stainless steel.

Ok, I am wrong. I just looked at it again and I can see the stainless mesh in it. The "white" is the border around the coil. I'll try to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for the replies. You have been alot of help.

It takes practice and experimentation to find what works for you. I'm sure there are people who would tell me that I drip wrong. Mmmmkay. I do lots of stuff in life wrong.

ETA: The white "border" circle thingy is the top edge of the reservoir cup.

Just getting into dripping to test out our early attempts at DIY. Just a disparity in prices. The previous link had a 5pk for $10 and on a different thread a single one was $6. Hmmmmmm Are the 510 atomizer pretty much the same..........whay such a price difference?

Is there a next step up from a 510? Anything just a bit better??

Digital Ciggz is having a sale, that's all. Those of us who use attys a lot are always looking for deals. My current inexpensive favorite is a Joyetech LR 306. Litecigusa is selling them for $6.95 each. The vendor I get mine from sells 10 in bulk for $49.

You might like this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...405910-regular-atty-drippers-dying-breed.html They discuss a lot of different attys.

ETA: Like everything in vaping, terms are often used loosely. "510" is the thread size, but in the case of attys it's become a catch-all term for plain attys that don't have a special name like a 306 or HH357 - both of which have 510 threading. Lol!

Thanks again. I can't find that picture on MadVapes. What is the make and model of this one?

The one with the bridge is made by Bauway. The bridgeless one is made by Vision. I only chose the pictures because you can see the insides clearly, not because they are any better than similar attys.

ETA: With a Twist you probably want to stay around around 2.0-2.5 ohms, at least until to get a perspective on how dripping itself works.

Ok, just read a blog posting that says the atty's should not be stored dry for long periods of time. If I just use these to test DIY's which could be daily or once in a couple weeks as I'm building my flavor stash....what is the best way to store? Or......if dry for longer periods of time, how should one "prime" the atty correctly?

Ocelet, many thanks...heading to the thread you linked to do some reading! I'll check back on this one to for more advice. All is appreciated.

Ummm...I didn't know about keeping them wet when I first start vaping. I just kept them in an Altoids box. They probably didn't dry out because I'm not very good about cleaning them. Now I put a condom from a carto over the connection end (If it fits, otherwise nothing) and put them in medicine bottles. Since I don't really clean them (I am so lame), they never quite dry out.

I found one in the back of a cabinet, that had to have been back there for about 7-8 months. It was in an Altoids box, so it wasn't dusty or anything. I just dripped on it and vaped. It worked fine. I'm really bad about cleaning stuff...
