I like the idea of dripping (especially when trying a new e liquid) but my results aren't very satisfying.

I use a Joye LR atomizer on an ego Twist.
I start with a clean the atty, and do a thorough dry burn. I then drip about 3 - 4 drops - and get nothing more than a tiny amount of vapor and a burnt taste. I'll then drip a few more drops - which improves the vape only a little. If I add more drops (so that I can achieve a somewhat decent vape) the liquid starts to leak out of the bottom of the atty.

Whenever I view a video clip for an e liquid review, it seems like the reviewer is only adding a few drops into their atty, yet are producing clouds of vape. Seems that however I approach it, I'm unable to get the same results.

I am going to purchase a drip shield, but I don't think that'll necessarily correct my problem. Most of the video reviewers I've seen don't appear to be using drip shields.

Many thanks in advance for your guidance!

Jerry

Perhaps try a drip shield. It's a little metal tube with orings, slides over the atty and the connection point (I use a short sealed adapter to get enough metal for the DS to slide over). It's safe to drip pretty freely then -- I like a slight gurgle.

I got mine from Empire Mods, pretty sure avid vaper and others also carry them. On mine I ended up removing the top oring, to improve air flow, since I'm using it with an IO6 and adapter sleeve; a standard 510 atty would likely work fine with both orings in place.

did you try putting about 5 drop then fired it up without vaping it for 1 sec.. then add 2-3drop then vape it.. what voltage you're on?

I'd drip in about 4 or 5 drops and then I'd wait for a few seconds and start vaping. The result is usually not too good, so I add in a few more drops - and keep adding till it finally starts to vape better. But by that point, I usually wind up flooding the atty. I usually have the Twist battery set at about 4 volts.

4volt in a LR atomizer?.. try lower.. i usually vape at 3.8 for LR and 4.9v for SR and 6v for HR.. but i use ikenvape's atty.. they work perfectly.. never had a DOA or died in a short period of time.

Thank you 79Silo! The information you've provided is important to me.

Please bear in mind that I've been vaping for a short time (today marks 6 weeks that I quit smoking!) - so I'm still learning! I'll keep those numbers in mind when I drip later today.

I also wasn't aware until recently that there are a number of manufacturers (other than Joye) who make attys.
I'll order one of the ikenvapes on your recommendation.
In the meantime, I just ordered a Bauway LR 510 Bridgeless from Rawr vapor the other day, and am anxious to try it.

Thank you for the congrats! After 44 years of smoking poison, I will NEVER go back! Believe me, I enjoy vaping a thousand times more that I ever enjoyed smoking!

As for the hardware, I love discovering new gadgets and gizmos that enhance the experience. In the short time that I've been vaping, I've already seen new products being introduced nearly every day. It's wonderful - and I don't mind spending money on quality - especially if it makes the experience more pleasurable.

However, my one big gripe is with e liquids. I'm aware that my frustration with trying to find liquids that I like are shared by all who start vaping. I've already wasted a ton of cash on liquids that were not worth a second puff. There's definitely some good product out there (I've fortunately discovered a few) but (imho) there's a lot more poor e liquids than there are good ones. I wish that aspect of the vaping experience was easier (and less costly). I guess it just comes with the territory. Hopefully, one day there'll be standards on what constitutes a quality product - and that eventually, the folks peddling 'snake-oil' will fade away.

Cheers!

Smae exact problem for me to. I first had a boge lr 510 atty which I debridged. Identical problem as the original post. I now got two 306 atty that was recommended for dripping. I didnt remove the bridge. Some thing with these.

Edit: Actually I think I got one working. I put one of the attys in vodka but I accidentally left it in the vodka for four days. It taste and works good now. The other I just used a while ago for the first time still taste burnt.

So through cleaning seems to be a solution.

Agreed - cleaning seems to make a difference. But there are endless opinions on the best way to approach atty cleaning. In my case, after cleaning, I do dry burns till I see the coil glow red. But sometimes I wonder if I'm overdoing the dry burns.

I am also relatively new and the vodka works. I use 306's and will let them sit in vodka for a day or two prior to using them. I actually have a small shot glass I keep by the sink and just refill nightly and switch them out. I did see that a drip shield was mentioned...I have used the DCA with great results. I also tend to use the lower voltage and they vape like mad.

I'm still new at this too, 21 days, so I'm still learning as well. But it seems that if you're vaping with a variable voltage mod, you wouldn't you use a LR atomizer. Maybe that's why you're getting a burnt taste. Any comments from some experienced vapers on this?

i do vape on LR but only from 3.7 - 3.9volts and it is just ok for me. As i like the warm vape going inside my mouth i prefer the SR or HR atty's are the best. Just my opinion

Sorry I misread. You meant you dry burn to clean it right? Im kind of new to this too and to be honest I don't clean my attys other than blowing out the liquid once and awhile. I use LR attys on my kgo and I just blow out the liquid that's in their then I drop a few drops of the liquid I want to vape and blow that out too, then drip again about 4 drops and it should be good though I usually drip another drop or 2 after a few puffs and then its fine. I probably don't do it right either but I get massive vapor from it, but then again i'm using AVE juices lol

All my good dripping experiences have been with purpose built dripping atomizers: Cisco Spec 510, Aeros, HH.357's, Vision Bridge-less, SmartVapes Bridge-less, IKV Cannon, AVA 510 , etc. Perhaps if you try one of those, you'll have a better experience than with the Joye.

Thank you AZCraig! I bought a Bauway bridgeless from Rawr and like it a lot. I'll check out the others you've kindly suggested.
