Can we get a Vet to post an "Intro to Dripping" thread. I am just getting started on DIY juice and think that dripping would be a great way to test them prior to making a huge batch or having to clean clearo or carto when it doesn't turn out so well. Howerver, I am not really sure what to buy to get set up for dripping. I have ego stuff just need to know what to buy to drip and some pointers on how to
do it. Thanks in advance.
Matt:)

Heylo! I'm not a "vet", but I do like to drip!

This is all my personal experience, I started dripping by ripping the shipped ego-c atomizers apart, cutting an old cartomizer and using one of the end condoms (cut) to seal it into the ego cone with a drip tip. I've also used the atomizers with spike still on, into the cone, with one of the shipped cartridges as a mouth piece Though it's a bit of a hassle to remove it to drip every time). It works in a pinch but it's an unnecessary process unless you are short on parts/money.

First, you want an atomizer. I use a 510 bridgeless (510 Bridgeless Atomizer). It doesn't have to be that one, but make sure you get a low resistance one if you're using a standard ego battery (1.5 ohm is my preference).

You'll want to get a drip tip also. Any will do as long as it is the right size (510). Some ship and are little looser fitting than others but they still work.

Lastly, keep a paper towel/napkin on hand, over filling will happen at first until you get a feel for how much your specific 'mizer can hold.

Next, you need juice (of course). I like to put a bit of juice in a spare 5mL bottle, but as long as you can get single drops you're good to go.

For technique, it's pretty simple really.

To start I like to take off the drip tip, get 2 - 3 drips on the dry atomizer/coil/mesh, and put the tip back on. Then just treat it like any other vape. If you are pulling, hearing it bubble but not getting much vapour give it a quick drag without firing the battery up, this will get rewick the coil (though you may get some splash back). Personally, once I stop hearing it bubble I like to add one more drip through the tip, there's nothing worse than a dry burnt atomizer, seriously nasty taste, I'd rather get a bit of juice/flood than that taste. You can also tilt the pv horizontal and pull lightly to resaturate.

A note on (510) drip tips that I've noticed: Juice can sometimes get trapped on the way down, not actually getting out of the tip. You'll pull and get it in your mouth, another unpleasant experience. I've made it a habit of blowing very gently ACROSS the tip (like making bottle whistles when we were kids). Not too hard or you'll force liquid through the atomizer and have a slight mess to deal with (though it's only a drop or two so it's not like a tank slipping off a carto). You can also sometimes hold it vertical and flick it like the doctors do on tv all the time, though that's hit n miss.

To clear out the 'mizer you can do a dry burn. Take the drip tip off, fire the battery 3-5 seconds on, 2 off. Repeat until you see it START to glow. Once it's glowing fire the battery just long enough for it to glow and off for 2 seconds. Do that a couple times and the old juice should be cooked off. You can also use flavourless PG/VG to rinse the old stuff off. Keep in mind that some flavours are harder to get rid of than others (menthols, cigar, anything that's extremely strong really). It will eventually go away but you may want to have a few just in case you get a flavour you can't stand at all (I have a banana that makes me almost vomit, had to toss out a brand new atomizer).

I know this is a bit of a wordy post, but dripping really is a straight forward thing, the technique is in the name. Just make sure not to over do it and you'll be golden.

Oh...or you could go through those links...look like they're a little more well thought out than my rambling.

Followed your directions with an old eGo-C atty and drip tip to the letter. I am now dripping for the first time! :D
Thank you for your detailed explanation. I think I might need a little fine-tuning as I am not getting the best flavor as of yet, but it just might be for me... GREAT WARM VAPE!

The search function tells me that there are 665 threads here that discuss direct dripping.

Exactly why we need another :toast: I posted a question on this on another thread earlier and hoped someone experienced could lend a hand and not point to 665 (now 667 threads). I got some pointers but Is there a sticky that gives a noob the basics?

When I started dripping all I knew of it was that you put juice on an atomizer and didn't want to flood it, and I didn't have a proper dripping atomizer. Atomizers usually ship with a bit of primer fluid in them, that has to be cooked off before you'll get the full flavour of juice. I wasn't SUPER fond of the ego-c atomizers either, but it will at least give you an idea if dripping is something you want to explore further.

Unfortunatly you will find that a lot of the stickies on ecf are from 2009, and the information contained in them is so dated that it is of little value anymore. The http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ping-illustrated-guide-e-cigs-part-1-6-a.html was beautifully done, it just needs someone to undertake the job of doing a 2012 version of it.

There are a few blogs here on ECF on dripping as well as a few videos on youtube.

Sadly I'm not allowed to view that link. Maybe I need to be verified.... Sadly that will likely never happen as the options for verification are all 3rd party sites that I don't use.

I also found The Wonderful World of Vaping: An Illustrated Guide to E-cigs interesting but full of odd ancient information that was of little value to a newbie like myself. Full of dead links, equipment that you'd only find digging through the junk bin of some veteran vaper.

I've been trying for about a week to drip and get nothing even close in flavor to an LR Boge or a T2, it's always mostly flavorless or downright nasty.

No, it's a "blog", and you just need your 5 posts to get out of the noob section.
However it is from 2010, and dripping has evoled a lot from then.

The best dripping atomizers I've found are from here: IkenVape My favorites for tasting juices are the io6 Series, though the 510 work great as well. I also use their Cannons, which hold quite a bit more juice. They're excellent for just sitting at my desk vaping mindlessly. For your eGo I'd stick to their 1.5 to 1.8 Ohm attys. I prefer the 1.8 to 2.5 on my E-Power 3.7 Volt, and the 2.5 is pretty weak for most liquids. FYI, the IkenVape attys come without that nasty primer, require no dry-burn (actually they don't recommend that!) and if you follow the instructions on their site you should be singing their praises a few minutes after opening the package.

    Happy mixing & vaping! :toast:

Very thoughtful post and pretty much on the money.
I've been mostly "dripping" for the few years that I've been vaping and proud to say it's pretty much my preferred method, after fighting through the learning curve, encouraged by the numerous opinions that it's the best way to get good flavor (and good vapor).
    There is a learning curve.
I've had my stints with cartos and tanks, and although imo tanks are the best way to get the most out of a cartomizer, I take the extra bit of time and effort that dripping requires and think it's well worth it.
Note: Bottom feeding requires the same skill as dripping and is in fact, a little trickier as you have to learn to control your feed volume, while with direct drip, you can have precise control over the amount of juice that gets to that atomizer coil and wick.

There are 2 factors in dripping that need to be addressed:
    1. voltage/watts (power) to resistance (Ohm) ratio
    2. juice

    1. To keep it short, if you have what's called a "3.7" pv (true voltage is about 3.4v), stick with LR (low resistance) range atomizers. If you have a higher powered PV with true voltage over 3.4, you can go up to SR (standard resistance; 2.2 to 2.5 Ohm).
I like 1.5 Ohm atomizers on my 3.7 devices because as long as you keep the juice amount right, you get the most consistent vapor production.

    2. PG gives more flavor, less vapor. VG more vapor, less flavor. So it makes sense to go with a 50/50 as a baseline and then adjust more or less depending on what you prefer.
Too much juice in the atomizer is worse than too little because you can always add more. If you flood the atty, best thing to do is take it off and blow it out and start with less.

    * if you are serious about dripping, get a Pyrex d/t. They allow the juice to go right down where it needs to be, and mostly won't come back up.

    Hope this is helpful.
