When employing the dripping method should I remove the cartridge material? I drip most of the time, but I've always kept the "stuffing" in the cartridge.

I've heard that some people develop breathing problems from vaping on fumes resulting from the atomizer burning the cartridge "stuffing." I worry about that. But I also think I would get a more powerful hit if I removed the "stuffing."

Develop breathing problems? Hmmm never saw that one. Do you have a source on that?
Also I've never come across any stories of actual health issues that arise from letting the cart material dry out and burn...

For my m401 I have some empty carts(basically just a mouthpiece to cap the atomizer), and occasionally I use carts modded with the blue foam plug(find this in the cartridge mods subforum). As far as I've heard, the blue foam does not risk any chance of burning.

I thnk most of the talk of 'burning poly' is bunk. Not that it can't be incinerated but most of the 'plastic taste' is the rare occasion where an atty bridge is off center and melts a cartridge top or there is so much gunk in and around the coil area that the build up of juice residue starts to get funky. Oddly, mods that run hotter don't seem to have the problem - I think it's a more efficient vaporizing of the ejuice. Same reason why the 510 attys can last longer -although you always have some people that will burn them up in a week.

I've had polyfil fibers stuck to the bridge that never 'singe' or discolor and if they are truly burning I think you'd see that.

But to answer the question regarding dripping - yeah, take it out ;-)

Thanks for the answers all. I should have determined this ages ago since I quit analogs last April and have been dripping from about that time. I'm vaping right now without the cartridge material and the taste is much improved and the hit feels more powerful.

Regarding the source for my burning cartridge material comment, I read on some thread on this forum that someone was having breathing problems after quitting analogs for ecigs, and 2 or 3 people suggested the cause could be burning cartridge material and the solution offered was to keep the material saturated with juice at all times.

You can save it for future use.

Hey, Wireguy! Are you planning to make a decorative pillow in 2025?

Ah... Connman got it. A cartomizer user - cartos have some different materials inside.

A doctor's report would have helped determine whether it was ecig related or something else entirely. However, given the situation, the guy was probably right in stopping. Wonder if there was a followup?
