Driving and Dripping

We all have the right..but it doesn't make it right.....We have the right to text, put on makeup, etc, while driving....slowly but surely our rights are being taken away because some have not used their rights in consideration of others...just sayin' .

There's an old expression, "Your freedom of speech ends at the tip of my nose", which can easily be transfigured to this discussion. You can figure it out.

And, I gladly add, texting while driving is becoming unlawful in many states.

Yeah I drip and drive. But then again, I routinely weaved in and around traffic at high speeds in unmarked vehicles for more than twenty years. As I blazed through intersections, I would be doing some of everything including putting on my leather gloves.

Can you do that without taking your eyes off the road?

I take driving seriously. I won't answer a cell phone while the vehicle is in motion. Some people text message while driving and see no problem with it. Some people drink a six pack and don't think they're a hazard.

STOP the vehicle if you must drip. OR find another solution, like carts or cartos.

Yeah, I drip easily without taking my eyes off the road or my hands off the steering wheel. No harder than turning on the turn signal while driving. Actually flipping the turn signal takes more effort.

HA! Not too many actually pull out the way. Not to mention most have their radios up to loud to hear the siren if you're using it.

Oh no, I am starting to look pig ignorant.

I by no means condone dripping and driving nor find it funny or acceptable as a 'driving habit'.

It was just something I noticed myself doing today, as an ex roll your own, it was a natural habit to top up (roll an e-cig) and wondered if others had tried/mastered this.

It is interesting though to think about the habits we all have and possibly share.

I like the highway police story, I can picture our local 'bobbys' doing exactly the same!

Listen, I wasn't questioning the worth of police. But, they're horrible drivers. They do stuff all the time which is illegal, without emergency signals, just cruisin' along. Horrible drivers.

Tailgating, lane changes without signals, turning onto highways directly to the far lane, the list is endless. But, who's to complain?

Because of the time of day, it was better to go local. I took local streets. I would have been practically stuck on the expressway while her son died waiting.

I drive 24 miles to work. I juice up (not Roger Clemens-style) in my driveway, once five miles later at the on-ramp (it's long and straight, and no, I'm not dripping as I merge) before I get on the highway, once at the red light I ALWAYS hit as I get off, and once again in the parking lot at work, and vape in peace in the parking lot for ten minutes before I go in.

I try to do it only at a dead stop with my foot firmly on the brake, not while creeping. I have been accident-free (mostly) for fifteen years, and work to maintain that.

Certainly not someone who has NO idea WHY they're doing what they're doing. Have you been trained when to use lights and sirens or do you get your expertise off tv and movies? In the real world lights and sirens get people killed and bad guys notice to get away.

Or if a cop isn't using his signals to change lanes because he's pacing someone and it would be seen overhead. Yes the list is endless of things LEOs are REQUIRED to do that a sane person wouldn't be willing to. Your prejudice/ignorance is showing. But who's to complain?

Well, if the definition of a horrible driver is they don't follow traffic laws then I would agree that some cops I knew were horrible (talking off duty here) since they never took the rules of the road seriously (they weren't going to get a ticket were they.)

However that doesn't mean they're unskilled. Far as I know there are pretty involved driving technique courses they have to take to graduate the police academy.

Dripping and driving seems like a terrible idea to me, along the lines of texting. Only with dripping you have the chance to spill juice and get distracted by that and ruin your interior!

Damn! Once (if) you live long enough to realize they're doing their best to do a job you wouldn't do, then you may have more tolerance for their actions.

Certainly not someone who has NO idea WHY they're doing what they're doing.

My only response to your whole post is, BS. I know it when I see it. If you're supposed to serve and protect, then dangerous driving is in direct conflict with your purpose.

Furthermore, the things I observe have nothing to do with helicopters or drug deals ... just plain sloppy driving.

I'm familiar enough with my head unit to adjust it without taking my eyes of the road, even for an instant.

I'm an old fart, who has survived 40 years of sharing the road with bad drivers, without an accident to my blame. And, I attribute that to treating ALL of them, including cop cars, as though they were out to kill me.
