The next dilemma is what happens when the flue-cured tobacco flavor runs out. Ordering a few bottles of juice from ruyandirect is expensive so I will continue to search out a less expensive alternative.

It's really not all that much when you think about it. You can order 150ml for $59.50 shipped. That works out to just under $0.40 per ml (0.396 actually), which barring a really good deal state side, is about the best price per ml you're going to find.

The only deal that beats Wayne's at the moment is the one David Yang has going...buy 100ml for $50, get 140; buy 200ml for $100 get 300ml. Orders over $200 ship free. Obviously, the more you buy the better the deal, but he doesn't carry Flue Cured.

MyVaporStore now has a 250ml for $109.99 (plus shipping) which works out to about $0.44 per ml before shipping. Most other deals seem to be at the 45 to 50 cent per ml range prior to shipping. Their liquid tends to have very strong flavor, so I'm going to try mixing some of the Virginia and Butterscotch that I have with some glycerin and see how that goes. The BS has a great candy flavor going in and a nice tobacco aftertaste. It's very nice actually, and quite strong so I suspect it should come through. Their liquid isn't great for vapor though (hence the glycerin cut).

One juice that is really good in the 601 is PowerPuff from LitecigUSA. Good vapor, nice throat hit, and the flavor really comes through. Powerpuff is basically RY3 which is less caramel flavor, more tobacco. I like it.

I do have two brand new bottles of Flue Cured that I'm going to have to cut down and try with the 601 now that you've mentioned it Chef. And I hate to say it, but I'm actually a fan of the TAB flavor as well...and I have some of that too. The RY 4 and the 555 I've tried with the pipe don't really come through too well. I got a hint of the RY, but not much from the 555. I've got a new order of both coming from David Yang, so I'm going to give those a shot as well.

I am having 2 issues...

1-If I tighten my jewel cap even a LITTLE too much... it gets STUCK ON! I cut my finger open trying to twist it off before I finally decided to put it in the freezer to see if it would shrink the metal and unstick it (worked, but not always gona have a freeer!). Any suggestions?

2- I am getting ZERO vapor after 10-15 puffs. When I check the cart it is still moist just not soaked (for example.. it only takes 2-3 drops to top it off) but I get NO vapor at all. Anyone else have this problem? You think the hole drill in back will help this to free flow of liquid?

The lack of flavor kinda sucks... but it is a very soothing device. Does feel nice to hold and puff.

1. whenever the cap gets stuck i would "fog-up" the jewel cap and then it would twist off fairly easy with my middle and index fingers. fog-up...like when you use your breath to clean your glasses or use your breath to fog up a mirror.

2. the hole will most definitely help with the flow of the fluid......with the hole, you can also blow into the mouthpiece gently to give the atomizer an extra bit of liquid or just help flow the liquid better.

Hi, asidrave.
How often do you carry out atom cleaning?

so far i only have had to clean it once necessarily and that was because i filled a cart with RY4 and i kept tasting the stock pipe cart liquid with the RY4 and it wouldn't produce a heavy vapor. i wanted to burn off the stock pipe liquid taste that wouldn't go away.

Hello!

I'm a long-time pipe smoker and am very interested in this model! But one of the great things about a real pipe is that it is just about the most flavorful way to experience tobacco smoking.

Why in the world would this device transport less flavor than other devices? What could be the cause of that? Could it be fixed with a tweak? Just how much flavor is lost?

Thanks!

As we're finding, not all flavors are lost. As we continue to use the 601 I'm sure we'll find several more flavors that don't get lost as well.

Spikey - try pulling out the cart and using the pipe for a while, you may be a little flooded. I was having that exact same problem, little or no vapor. For the hell of it I pulled out the cart, vaped for a while. At first there was very little, then it started getting better, then it was really good, then fizzled. Once the vapor production started to dwindle again I re-inserted the cart and all has been good since.
A pinhole in the back of the cart is a huge help for flow, as Raul has mentioned.

Spikey, I had the cap on mine get stuck a couple of times also, I used one of those gripper pads used for opening jar lids and it worked perfectly.

Dan

X2 - He knows stuff.

Along the lines of asidrave's comment, I will very lightly wet two fingers just enough to get a good grip on the jewel cap. The key is light turning pressure. If you push down on the cap, it becomes harder to get it to start turning.

I really do not know. The vapor in the DSE601 must travel twice the distance from atomizer to mouthpiece as an 801/penstyle, for example. Perhaps that distance allows for more cooling and condensing of the vapor before it exits into our mouths. Maybe that is why stronger flavored juices seem to come through better than lightly flavored juices.

Do not rule out a weak atomizer. I kept watching asidrave's video clips at the massive vapor belching out of his facial orifices, but I was not getting that experience. I was drawing on my pipe till it was hot to the touch before it produced reasonable vapor. My carts also seemed to be moister than I expected.

My spare DES601 atomizer came in this past week and the first draw was amazing in compared to the original atomizer. It was then I understood how great this device really is. Needless to say, I have contacted Wayne to put in motion a warranty exchange.

Bri - keep us up to date on the juice mixes you are enjoying with the DSE601. I may have to try some of that PowerPuff, even though it sounds like a Japanese cartoon character that kids watch on Saturday mornings and who likely has a sexual orientation not up to the standards of the Boy Scouts of America.

I am interested in your opinion of the flue-cured. Keep this thread up to date with your comments.

P.S. My wife thinks I suck a lot, in a negative sense, too.

I made up some Butterscotch from MVS, The flavor was really muted, almost non existent, which totally surprises me because it's one of the strongest in my 801 and 901 box mods. I tried 24mg, cut in half to 12mg with PG and some VG. I then went straight up at 24, and although the flavor was more prevelant, it wasn't nearly what I would have expected - Vapor and throat hit were fine. Just for comparison sake, I typically cut it to 7.2mg for my 801 and 901 and the flavor is great, very strong...one of my favorites.

I totally agree on the nomenclature for PowerPuff...not exactly what I would have chosen. I prefer to call it RY3, which is what it actually is.

I'm going to give the Flue Cured a go.

My new DSE601 atomizer works so damn well that I am finding that my smoke juices do taste better than with the original weak atomizer that shipped with my initial order. Aside from the very nice vape with the Ruyan flue-cured cut from 36mg to 24mg with glycerine and distilled water, the JC Kona Coffee 24mg (PG-based) is tasting really, really nice. Next up is TW vanilla and TW coffee.

This is my next device. LOL!

Vapor wise it is pretty hefty figs.. plus you would look cool vaping it, but I am still not gettin much flavor from it. I tried it with menthol and I could finally taste it more... but changed the flavor a lot. It seems to make every flavor I put in there taste "dirty" or "old". The polyfil material smells weird after a few puffs too. I changed it and it didn't help.. a few puffs and it was right back to dirty tasting.

I don't know... I like the duration of the battery... but the cart is staying wet and not wicking after a few puffs (I take off the mouthpiece and push the cart onto trhe atty and it squeezes some fluid on but only works once or twice and now my atty has fuzz on it and I hafta clean it off) and it is too much work to refill. Now I see why Dcrist put a hole in the back of the cart to refill at... it is messy to take it out. Much easier for me on zero nic... but still sticky. I think I will sell mine and just wait for my Prodigy.

Spikey, how long have you had yours? I've noticed a big improvement after one week with mine. The flavors are starting to come through for me now.

I think the pin hole in the back of the cart is a must do to improve liquid flow to the atomizer. Three or four puffs, hold it up straight and three or four more puffs. I enjoy the pipe so much I have now reserved it for night time, wind down vaping only.

I do need to learn how to mix a good no nic juice. All of mine end up contaminating an atomizer with after taste for two days. I think I use too much Lorann's or something. I've refused to put it in my pipe for fear that I will really kill the flavors of my favorite liquids.
