Try covering the air holes where the atty connects to the battery. Then try cleaning the threads, they may be gunked up a bit. If neither of those help, blow fairly hard from the LED end and see if any juice comes out the connector. You may have a little juice leaked in it. 801 attys are bad about leaking/condensation.

If none of the above help, roll a little bit of paper towel up and push it in the connector and set the battery up in a glass with the connector end down for a couple of hours. It really sounds like there's some juice in the connection.

I use penstlyes every day. I have had some issues with batteries as well (but now use mods). Sounds like you aren't getting contact.

Sometimes the center post of the 801 atomizer will get pushed in and won't make contact with the battery. Gently pry up the atomizer center post by inserting a straightened metal paper clip in the center hole (at the 12 and 6 o'clock position) and use leverage to bring it back up.

If that doesn't work, you can try the staple modification to get good connection. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-center-conductor-gap-penstyle-atomizers.html

The other guess would be cleaning the threads.
