Maybe you could add a variable regulator and tweak it for those CE2s you got. ;)

I'm seriously thinking about building a VV mod. Truth be told, I'm not very good at soldering. I can't stand my POS iron... The dumb tips won't tin worth a lick so it took a lot longer than it should have (can't discount the inexperience either). For mod building any suggestions on a decent iron?

Whew! That was a read - and I can't just catch up on THIS thread, I have to catch up on all of the linked threads at the other places, lol!

I had to take a break - today was double coupon day and had to get my shopping list together. Ended up saving 78% so it was worth it! :D

(Edwv30 - I take it you're still mad at me. Sorry I offended you. :( )

I just called it the Good Deed Operative Posse in this post in the new section.

lolady - just wanted to say "hi" and tell you I have read many of your wonderful posts. You are one hip and happenin' "old lady!" I don't think my mom - who's pretty tech savvy - knows the amount of net slag and current trends/pop culture like you do. I know I've never seen her use "WTF!" in a post, lol! :2cool: Unfortunately, I cannot post in the New Member forum, so I wasn't able to do a proper welcome there. So...welcome here!! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RANDY!!:bday:

I have no idea. Maybe because I activated the color-changy thingy the other day? They don't know what to do with me - I'm a veteran, a blogger and an accessories supplier, so maybe it's just confused! Maybe they'll give us an "Activist/Advocate" designation some day, too and that will really confuse the system! LOL! :D

Kristin,

Just curious... Why does it say you are an ECF Veteran twice above your avatar?

I like Weller personally, but I use lab quality, "console" types. In general though, make sure it has replaceable tips, get yourself a little tin of "Tip Retinner", and always clean the tip often with a moistened sponge (preferable moistened with distilled water). Also be sure to tin the tip with solder and clean before turning it off.

For a pen model, this one looks pretty good Amazon.com: Weller WP25 Professional 25Watts/120V Soldering Iron: Home Improvement

Avoid any that use a screw thru the side to hold the tip in. Go for a screw-in type, or better the kind where part of the shaft screws down to hold the tip.

Thanks for the tips.

My buddy at work has one of those "console" types. He does a lot of re-solder jobs on laptops where the power jack that's connected to the motherboard has broken off. He let me use it when I built my 5v box mod and it was a joy to use. I can't justify the expense for building the occasional mod or soldering wires for car audio. Actually, I can justify it to myself, but not to the wife. :)

EDIT: About those power connections on laptops...

I'm not a big fan of Apple, but the magnetic connectors they use on their MacBooks are GENIUS!

I'm a bit late, but happy birthday Randy...

Thanks for all the Birthday Wishes everybody! Don't worry, Smurfette and I only had cake... really! <coughs>

I'm not sure ~how~ we're supposed to take that. Show him Smurfette and he is ready for a night on the town?

That's moderately disturbing. Somebody get this man a whisky quick before he does something ill advised! -Magnus

No, he doesn't need whiskey, he needs paper towels to wipe his hands before he gets his keyboard all sticky, from the frosting

Nobody said anything about leaders. Rank. Class. Or whatever.... but unless I've completely failed at literacy it appears a few people have been writing HowTos and other advocacy documents or references. John, Kristen, I think Randy was involved, some others editing.

Oddly enough a good portion of this thread was about where to move the right things to talk about. There has been end-results and work product that has come from all this. I don't think it's unreasonable to put some organization around that if you want it to be used. Exactly why I asked the question... Clearly by even mentioning only John and Kristen I left people out. So following their posts only wouldn't get me much better anyway.

There have been a few 'No' answers already so that puts it to rest but any implication I'm trying to classify people within the thread as leaders and followers is unfounded. -Magnus

I certainly see your point, I've read through this entire thread, and the one before it, and bounced over to lurk on the QSMB a bit. There has been a ton of great information posted by a lot of people. However, trying to find it in between the random chatter could make someone crazy, and I for one don't need any help with that. Not to mention, imagine trying to point someone new to some of the information in here. Magnus has a good point, it would be useful to have most of the informational posts collated separately from the chatter. As fun as it can be to read through, it just gets frustrating when you're digging for a specific bit of info.

Thanks for the few of you who gave me the UK no smoking forum link. I joined and posted. I need to make an intro post - no worries.. it wont be a book like my QSMB post. LOL

Thank you XBB !

And as for the rest of you.. Look what you did.. helping save lives on QSMB and now this board in the UK. I have to say I am very proud to be associated with some of the finest human beings on this planet I have ever met.

There is a plan to put together a group of threads on QSMB to submit to Fred as a sticky package.

First we need to get the basic "How to Quit Smoking Using an Electronic Cigarette" thread together.

Kristen is working on that, but there is no rush that I can see.
And I also have a backup version of my own just in case.

Once we get that posted, I was planning on asking people to suggest other threads there that should be included.
Then when we come to some form of agreement, I'll submit it to Fred for stickying.
:)

I think Magnus is saying he'd like a compilation of the info in this thread consolidated....here on ECF also

...embrace the dissent as an opportunity to refine the message...

I just wanted to thank Magnus for inspiring me, which I forgot to do yesterday.

If you all decide to put the weighty and edifying stuff somewhere, maybe somebody who isn't using their blog will want it to live there?

kristin:
...my mom...I've never seen her use "WTF!" in a post...

Thank you kristin! And all the people who said such nice things. You've made me very vain now. I had to go put on eyeshadow and everything.

I've really been enjoying watching language evolve as all the flavors of electronic media have grown from Science Booth Curiosity, to novelty for the rich n' famous, to necessity of life, for all practical purposes.

Did you know that "into," used as an indicator of interest, used to be even further beyond the pale than "WTF" is today ?

Those popular expressions used to change with the generations, but since mass media, they just accumulate!

Maybe I'll do a Tangent blogrant about it...

But not today. I'm still fooling with the Tangent about Beliefs of the Opposed, or What The Opposed Believe, or whatever it ends up being.

...I cannot post in the New Member forum...

Why ever not?

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, Randy!
