I admit I had to look up "See's Candies." I can see why you'd fight for them, lol!

My hubby has the same problem. His birthday "gift bag" usually includes his favorite snack foods that I rarely buy - pistachios, beef jerky and Vienna sausages. He always ends up having to share some with the kids (and I sometimes pinch some pistachios, lol!) I've started doubling the amount so he actually gets some! LOL!

See's candy is to walk across the desert for..............

Morning all! Some nice posts and good thinking overnight, especially Kirstin's meat eater/vegetarian analogy! That was a doozy! Ren's long post was good too.

Hey, DC, I don't know if you've noticed, but as I write your post count sits on 7,999! Thats a big number!

Now, over to the other place for a look-see at what's been happening there, if anything.

Cheers

Hobo, you know I'm in Hobart and Perth every Christmas season. By Christmas 2012 I'll have the double. And my absurd travel case works fine for a few longs. Where are you again? -Magnus

As it happens, I'm in Hobart!

However, I don't know if you'd want to be hauling the double to AU, for a start, as I think you know, our firearms legislation is positively Draconian. Unless you were planning to bring the double anyway I can hardly think it would be worth the trouble. I'm assuming you'd fly into Sydney and then continue on from there? If so, here's what you'd need just to bring the rifle into Sydney...
http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data.../FACT_SHEET_Overseas_Visitors_Safari_Tour.pdf

Then you'd need similar clearances from the other individual states you'd be visiting. Unless you're the kind of person that thrives on paperwork and loves red tape I think it might be somewhat tedious!

Secondly, it's going to weigh a fair bit, what'll it run out to? 12 to 15 pounds I imagine, plus the case? That'll add a bit to your excess luggage charges, not to mention ammo, if you wanted to bring that too. I doubt you'd be able to pick up any here, there might be a few "collectors items" around, but they'd likely be so old I doubt they'd be safe to shoot.

I just can't see that it would be worth all the effort, sadly. :(

Following on from my previous question, I would have thought that having it regulated to 100-120 metres or thereabouts would be rather "distant" for that sort of weapon? It's not really the sort of distance at which one would be likely to use it, surely?

(Don't get me wrong, btw, I'm no sort of expert on these matters, I've just always admired the double as the pinnacle of the gunsmith's art, I have no real world experience with them at all. The largest calibre I've ever owned personally is the .303 British. When I was a shooter my main interest was benchrest shooting (I think it appealed to my obsessive nature) and wandering the paddocks eliminating rabbits. Oh, and whistling for foxes, I forgot that.)

Cheers

When I first read that reply by greenlover about using Kristin's cases to hold drugs, I immediately thought the same thing.

It sounded like a snide remark about how we are all still drug users.
But then I thought about it some more, and I don't think that was her intention.

I do think she meant exactly what she said, given she has to take many pills.
But I could be wrong.
:)

I just figured a pretty daily pill container would be nicer then the boring plastic case I now use-why always assume its a slam remark.

Thanks for coming to defend my honor on that thread guys. You all rock! I addressed it, as well.

We don't feel trapped or a slave to e-cigarettes. That is what seems to keep getting lost on the QSMB folks. We DO feel free!

Do you feel a slave to coffee or caffeinated soda?

Do you feel a slave to your favorite sweets?

Do you feel a slave to your internet? Car?

We enjoy the e-cigarettes. The look, feel, taste and experience. We enjoy the community it has brought us. We enjoy learning the facts about and taking control of our own health.

There were a LOT of things that I disliked about smoking - the smell on me, the sense of shame that society looked down on me as a smoker, the fact that I could be killing myself with the toxins in the smoke, the bad feeling in my throat and lungs if I smoked too much and my kids seeing that example. But being "addicted" or dependent wasn't what I disliked about smoking - that was a side issue. I don't have any of those issues with my e-cigarettes.

So I don't feel a slave to my e-cigarette any more than I feel a slave for buying tasty, low-fat, organic food to improve my health and that of my family. Now, if you told me I had to eat tofu, I wouldn't be happy. I strongly dislike tofu! Blech.

Why do Q folks insist we must feel a slave to something we enjoy? Why do they insist we must quit doing something that is no more of a risk to our health than drinking coffee or caffeinated drinks? Sure, nicotine can be a poison (in pure, undiluted form) and it can have some low health risks, but the same can be said for caffeine.

QSMB is a site that was created to help people quit smoking. It has been largely populated with folks who take an abstinence approach to nicotine. Imagine a site created for eating healthy that has been taken over by vegetarians who hate meat. But quitting meat isn't the only way to eat healthy, right? But everyone who comes to the site is told that they must quit eating meat or they aren't eating healthy. Then new members come to the site and see that people are told to quit eating meat. They disagree that this is necessary for everyone and argue that folks should eat a balanced diet and that meats are even essential for good nutrition. The long-time members accuse the new members of being paid shills for the meat industry. When that shows not to be true, they call the "meat-eaters" names and accusing them of being animal killers, uncaring, disgusting for eating meat, weak-willed and should be ashamed for promoting meat on a web site for getting healthy. The "meat-eaters" have no problem with people who choose not to eat meat - that's a personal choice. But they worry that the advice being given on this site will scare people off from eating healthier (thinking they have to quit meat) or their health may be in danger because being a healthy vegetarian means more than just quitting meat (proteins and nutrients must be replaced.) So they stick around the site to make sure that people don't ONLY get the "no meat ever" message.

Does that analogy help any?

I think the Q board and I to a point sees E cigs users as a way of still getting nictine-so basically it seem you're still a slave to nictine like we were when we smoked.

Well, we are. But we mostly don't mind too much I think.
I'm not stressed about it at all.

Cheers
