I was thinking back on the earlier conversation here about helicopters and such...
And thinking back to the NOT ONE PUFF EVER folks over at QSMB...

This is why I will never buy a video game console of any kind, or any kind of remote control helicopter.
Video games MUST be the coolest things in the whole entire world, and so must remote control helicopters.

If I ever get ahold of one of those my life will be over, my wife would leave me, and I would become a HUGE loser.

So my motto is NOT ONE VIDEO GAME EVER!
And the corollary of NOT ONE REMOTE CONTROL HELICOPTER EVER!

We were even thinking of getting a Wii Fit but I think it is just too dangerous for me.
And no, I'm not kidding around or anything, I'm dead serious.

Some people I'm sure can play a video game now and then.
Or fly a remote control helicopter now and then.
But not me.

A cigarette on the other hand, yeah I can have one now and then, doesn't bother me.

MadMac, you'll have to talk to ClayK about that. I haven't even tried for three reasons... 1) I suspected the bladder wouldn't be light enough at that size to hold enough helium to be worthwhile. 2) I suspected any bladder I found that worked, like the air-gliders, wouldn't be strong enough to take the abuse even if (1) was addressed. And 3) I'm dealing with much more fundamental problems right now. I'm trying to get a UAV and a ROV to work in concern and right now I'm a long way from just that before I optimize the system. If I ever get it right...

I've taken serious consideration to handing it over to some University students or mentor some highschool FIRST competitors with everything I have so far. Let them sink the hours and passion into it for the next step. -Magnus

Have you talked to Chris Bergen about your aerial portion? He might be able to give you some help. Although... Erich is definitely a really good choice for UAV/Helicopter stuff, that's what he does for a living.

aww dude don't drop your fun outlet due to me asking a few questions or a little frustration...that frustration is what makes success all the sweeter...if I was there I would be offering help but unfortunately I'm hundreds of miles away...(which may be a good thing lol):p

Hardly man. I've got a toddler, THAT is my fun outlet now.... everything else takes a distant second. And I'm financially taking care of a lot of people I wouldn't normally be doing so in better economic times. So it's expensive too.

And giving it all to younger more invigorated minds isn't a bad thing. I still do "what I do" as well as anybody else. I'm not worried about it, you didn't influence me by asking questions. Pfft. -Magnus

You're the umpteenth person who mentioned Erich and I need to reach out to him over lunch. I haven't talked to anybody at MacDill yet but I would expect the Coast Guard would have told him I was over on their plots.

I'll ping Erich before my next schedule MacDill visit. He can point and laugh at me for a few minutes. -Magnus

After that last post, he/she might be needing another place to go soon.

Hecates is definitely a she, if her intro QSMB post is to be believed, which I am sure it is.

Thats my little introduction of me. Im a woman (I dont like labels like male / female) therefore I am a woman. I am menopausal and have sore bones all over all of a fecking sudden and its really annoying!!.

I wish I knew something about RC Helicopters, I'm feeling left out :(
Ah well, that probably how others felt when I rambled on about ancient computer languages, serves me right. :)

Cheers

He is but he doesn't seem at all interest in the DIY Drones community or Arduino so I have hesitated to even suggest it. I will however take your most sage advice and reach out for his expertise. At the very least if I'm a lost cause he'll know whom best to get everything donated to. -Magnus

S.O.S.!!

Since we are talking about a wide range of subject here I'm reaching out to any and all birders.
I just took a baby Hairy or Downy woodpecker out of a semi feral cat's mouth and to my surprise it hadn't been injured by "Squeaky" so I tried to put him back where I first found him. He scooted up the bush but soon fell out. I think he's trying to fly but is still very fluffy and fat and can't quite manage it. I held on to him and he did try and peck me so I'm gauging this {I don't know really} to mean he isn't sick? He rode on my shoulder for a few minutes and tried to fly off but he hits the ground soo hard the cat came running to catch him again *sigh* Right now he is in a dark shoe box with paper towels some suet and seed and a tiny bit of water.
I don't want to just let the cat kill the poor little bird so anyone with a good suggestion on what to do with him next will be more than welcome. I was wondering if wildlife facilitator would take him?

Anyone an OT or PT person who vapes?

Or anyone have some connection to someone in this profession that I can get some thoughts/references/suggestions on E-Cigs for clients with some physical and mental impairments? Impairments with TDK, hemiplegia/paresis and some mild/moderate cognitive issues.

We were discussing this at stand-up and they were thinking getting something from a corner store...

oh noes...only person I know that could help is my mother...(she seems to rescue birds + cats w astonishing regularity) she is in panama and kinda hard to get ahold of first order of buisness...you have handled it so it is unlikely the momma will care for it...that one is out...

food I do know a friend years ago had a bluejay she raised from a baby after it was in the same situation...she fed it water soaked high protein dog food...

I agree with DC2 there should be some sort of rescue in the area...

I'm starting to wonder if manufacturers of disposable e-cigs (like Square Smoke) would be inclined to offer at-cost discounts to registered re-sellers to the handicapped and elderly. Self contained systems, easy to use, recycle/throw away when done.

If they'd at least offer a substantial discounts I'd donate into a pool to purchase them for such use.

I've been dealing with hemiplegia myself for about three years during a slow and painful recovery. During that time I used auto-batt stick e-cigs with few problems. Dripping on an atty was out of the question though. Everything had to be cartomizer based. -Magnus

Sorry, but what is an OT or PT person?

Some of the clients were thinking of picking some up?
Or some of the therapists were thinking of picking some up for them?
Or some of the therapists were thinking of putting together a stock of supplies for use on premises?

Call / page animal control.. they usually have the emergency contact numbers for all sorts of animal rescues and in New England there are a TON of bird rescues. They could let you know if it's something they can do something about, who can, or if it's just not viable. -Magnus
