No no... did you not see that movie? It's a line from the movie, I was commenting on the fact that I don't always catch on to who is saying what to whom.

Or do you not know that English is my third or fourth language (depending on what you consider language) so I have insecurities about getting my point across of comprehending.

I got what you were saying, I was making fun of me. -Magnus

really well I'm now sure you are a guru...and spectacular as I'm also sure one of those languages before English is a programming language...and you speak better English than 95% of the people I've met...

I had no choice in developing a good/excellent vocabulary...I had an English teacher for a grandmother...and a rough one at that...on other misbehavior(not bad English) out the switch would come...of course I didn't get that much but I remember a few times I couldn't sit down for a while...

Maybe that's the real problem nowadays... they removed corporal punishment in most states...spare the rod...

and my 5 months will be the 26th...yeah!!!!

I think if you are a reader you normally have an above average vocabulary. Now, if that would only help me with my spelling... For some reason that part doesn't stick.

Congrats Linden, Kristin and phonedude!

Read up on phonetics, not phonics, although phonics does have some merits. I think that might be part of the reason I'm above average at spelling. I'm also slightly OCD with a slight photographic/total recall type condition, so I'm sure that's part of it too.

The only problem with learning vocabulary by being a reader (for me) is the pronunciation part. I sometimes butcher vocalizing a word, even though I know its meaning! LOL!!

(Thanks for the congrats.)

That's where phonetics, and to some degree phonics, will help. Knowing how words (specifically letters) connect and the sound they should make, will help vocalization.

LOL phonetics and dyslexia with a bit of aphasia mixed in try this for a laugh I was reading 2nd to 3rd grade level at 4 except the word pedestrainian...oh you mean pedestrian:lol:

I was reading at a 6th grade level at 6-7. I was way ahead when I moved east in the early 80's. Being able to write cursive, multiply, divide, etc while everyone else in 1st grade is learning the alphabet and how to write.... was trying. I went to a Montessori school for a couple of years when I was young, in California (San Luis Rey Mission to be exact).

Then throw in a word borrowed from another language and it all gets thrown out the window. Even the well educated can have problems.
