Greenlover's response post to DC2 says everything somebody needs to know about the Q's integrity.
When I first read that reply by greenlover about using Kristin's cases to hold drugs, I immediately thought the same thing.

It sounded like a snide remark about how we are all still drug users.
But then I thought about it some more, and I don't think that was her intention.

I do think she meant exactly what she said, given she has to take many pills.
But I could be wrong.
:)

I took it at face value as well. I don't think there was any reason to read into it.

How do you figure that?? the way I understand it is its addictive & deadly, yet I figure its what made smoking "fun"?

I take it that remark about me (greenlover) was some subtle slam???

See, those two remarks make me believe my suspicion was dead on. It seems like you're criticizing Kristin's work as some sort of cool/pretty way to handle a drunk and goes along w/ the "junkie" mentality of ....... users they've spit out on the Q as well.

So if you weren't, then I'm sorry... but those two remarks above together make me think you're still thinking that way. And I wasn't trying to be subtle, I believed fully you were underhandedly criticizing Kritin's business. If you were not, I am sorry and can remove/edit any such unfair post. -Magnus

Problem here is that ecigs aren't being given anything close to a fair shake. If fear of nicotine keeps the long-standing quitters away from cigs, more power to them. I/we are talking about people that have not quit smoking.
YES!!!

I understand that even "playing nice" with ecig methods/use is anathema to a convinced opponent of the 'nicodemon'. Plus the fact that only ecigs have a place to "fall back to" if you relapse that isn't a cig/snus/smokeless.
Exactly.

Wouldn't it be better for a cessationist to embrace ecigs to get somebody away from cigs, then focus on the "accursed" nicotine addiction? It would make their work ALOT easier in many ways, cuz you could talk about reducing nicotine to nothing.

It doesn't change the thought process at all, can still think nicotine is the worst thing ever created. Work on the people that have quit smoking, make them think really hard about whether or not they REALLY want to keep puffing on a $34.00 straw.
EXACTLY!!!!

For a cessationist to tell me that I've not quit smoking, and that I'll go straight back to cigs is VERY DETRIMENTAL to the larger goal of getting EVERYBODY ON EARTH to quit smoking.
Damn straight.

Seriously, if CT doesn't work, then what?
Try something else... like gum.
Doesn't work?
Let's try a patch now...
Still doesn't work?
Try the Lozenge
Try the inhaler
Try eating twizzlers
Chew on dum-dum sticks
Eat pens
I could keep going here...

How many times does a smoker need to quit/relapse with other methods before it is considered "acceptable" to give ecigs a try?
I would say if cold turkey doesn't work, don't even bother with that other crap.
An electronic cigarette is better, cheaper, and far more successful than anything else.

Damn good post there renstyle... damn good.
:)

Thanks for coming to defend my honor on that thread guys. You all rock! I addressed it, as well.

Sometimes I wonder if you'd think about the joys of being free & embrace it just a little you could maybe understand why the Q board sees things as they do.

We don't feel trapped or a slave to e-cigarettes. That is what seems to keep getting lost on the QSMB folks. We DO feel free!

Do you feel a slave to coffee or caffeinated soda?

Do you feel a slave to your favorite sweets?

Do you feel a slave to your internet? Car?

We enjoy the e-cigarettes. The look, feel, taste and experience. We enjoy the community it has brought us. We enjoy learning the facts about and taking control of our own health.

There were a LOT of things that I disliked about smoking - the smell on me, the sense of shame that society looked down on me as a smoker, the fact that I could be killing myself with the toxins in the smoke, the bad feeling in my throat and lungs if I smoked too much and my kids seeing that example. But being "addicted" or dependent wasn't what I disliked about smoking - that was a side issue. I don't have any of those issues with my e-cigarettes.

So I don't feel a slave to my e-cigarette any more than I feel a slave for buying tasty, low-fat, organic food to improve my health and that of my family. Now, if you told me I had to eat tofu, I wouldn't be happy. I strongly dislike tofu! Blech.

Why do Q folks insist we must feel a slave to something we enjoy? Why do they insist we must quit doing something that is no more of a risk to our health than drinking coffee or caffeinated drinks? Sure, nicotine can be a poison (in pure, undiluted form) and it can have some low health risks, but the same can be said for caffeine.

QSMB is a site that was created to help people quit smoking. It has been largely populated with folks who take an abstinence approach to nicotine. Imagine a site created for eating healthy that has been taken over by vegetarians who hate meat. But quitting meat isn't the only way to eat healthy, right? But everyone who comes to the site is told that they must quit eating meat or they aren't eating healthy. Then new members come to the site and see that people are told to quit eating meat. They disagree that this is necessary for everyone and argue that folks should eat a balanced diet and that meats are even essential for good nutrition. The long-time members accuse the new members of being paid shills for the meat industry. When that shows not to be true, they call the "meat-eaters" names and accusing them of being animal killers, uncaring, disgusting for eating meat, weak-willed and should be ashamed for promoting meat on a web site for getting healthy. The "meat-eaters" have no problem with people who choose not to eat meat - that's a personal choice. But they worry that the advice being given on this site will scare people off from eating healthier (thinking they have to quit meat) or their health may be in danger because being a healthy vegetarian means more than just quitting meat (proteins and nutrients must be replaced.) So they stick around the site to make sure that people don't ONLY get the "no meat ever" message.

Does that analogy help any?

It has been 2 months since my last analog.

Today has also been absolutely frustrating. It seems I have completely forgotten how to drip. I pulled out the clearomizers, but they don't seem to be working properly either. Still having wicking issues despite loosening the little plug. I'm starting to think that a 70/30 mix is just too much VG for the clearomizer. Anyone else have experience with them? Anything I can do to make them wick better? As I was taking it of my PV, I managed to pull the tube off. Add a mL of juice on my jeans to the frustration pile.

I use 70/30 exclusively. Some are a pain about wicking, and require the seal to be lifted more. On some I enlarged the dimples on the seal.

I can't wait for other manufacturer's clearos to become available. MiT can't seem to get it together to build a bullet-proof model. I'm using the Vision from GV now, and the company that makes it looks promising.

Low fat food that's tasty? Never heard of such a thing.

But yeah, I am a slave to the Weight Watchers diet.
Or at least I am a slave to the fact that my wife is on the Weight Watchers diet.
:)

I haven't had a candy bar in years.
I haven't had a donut in years.

I only get See's Candy for my birthday.

I don't get to eat pizza nearly as often as I want to.
Well, that's because I want to eat pizza every day, all the time, non-stop!

Kemp's makes this low-fat frozen yogurt that is awesome. The strawberries and cream flavor is better, IMO, than their regular strawberry ice cream and the mango peach is to die for!

I also substitute low-fat turkey products for a lot of the fatty beef and pork in recipes or low-fat dairy in recipes and most people can't even tell the difference!

Thanks for the suggestions, Randy and MM. I tried that, but it still won't wick unless I turn it upside down for a second or so. I guess the clearos just ain't for me.

Any good news on the job front, Randy?

I'll have to check into that Kemp's frozen yogurt.

My main late-night snacks these days are black licorice and tootsie rolls.
YOu can have quite a few of them for very little Weight Watchers points.
:)

We use quite a bit of turkey italian sausage.
Good for grilling, great for spaghetti.

We also make various pork, chicken, or buffalo burgers.

There is a frozen yogurt place I found nearby that makes a rich and decadent fat-free chocolate fudge.
I throw raspberries, strawberries, and chopped almonds on there and if I didn't know better I would swear it tastes really good.

Well, I take it as undisputable proof that low-fat, healthy food CAN taste good because my kids - ages 4 to 20 - love my cooking! ;) My 18 year old son, who is going to school to become a chef, says the meals at his friends' houses were always processed, unvaried and unbalanced. Rarely would there be a vegetable and I always had vegetables in some form - and no, I wasn't a housewife with all of the time in the world! Frozen veggies steamed in the microwave with a little butter are better than nothing and it takes hardly any effort at all. Now my 4-year-old will eat green beans, broccoli and asparagus before she'll eat the meat in a meal. Of course, she also loves french fries, but I believe in moderation, not abstinence. Start young and food preferences can be set in the right direction, I think.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and that's not good when you are talking about food! Deprivation just makes falling off the wagon that much worse, lol!

This makes me think of a scene I saw in - I want to say Food, Inc - where the family ate fast food daily because homemade meals were "too time consuming" and - believe it or not - "too costly." They went to a grocery store and picked up some fresh broccoli and complained that just the one bunch of broccoli was the same cost as a "whole value meal" and that the broccoli would go bad. All I could think was that you can get a 1lb bag of frozen broccoli on sale for a $1 and it takes 8 minutes in the microwave!

You can eat a lot healthier than most people do without spend a fortune on fresh organics and hours in the kitchen. I was shocked to think that just a bag of frozen veggies would be a 500% improvement in the diet for most Americans!

/rant lol!

I get a one pound box of See's Candies for my birthday.
I don't care about being surprised, it is well understood that I want my See Candies, period.
:)

I will eat the entire box with a nice bottle of Zinfandel.
And while I will grudgingly share some with the wife, there are limits and there are provisos.

For instance, if she decides she would like certain ones, I will give her a dirty look.
If she decides she wants one, without letting me know ahead of time, when I only have around 5 left, I will growl at her.

If she decides she wants one, without letting me know ahead of time, when I only have around 3 left...
She is taking her life into her own hands.

Oops... I flip mine over too, it's become habit so I'd forgotten to mention it.

I'm waiting to hear back from the 2 companies I interviewed with. I hope to hear something by the end of next week.

I really hope I get the last one. It's a startup company, building 8kW-50kW wind turbines. I'd love to get in the alternative energy field, so it's a near perfect job.
