Sounds like a tough situation, CB. The trainer is a tool.

I'm not a dog person (bad experience with a pit bull), but you probably shouldn't keep him if he is aggressive towards you or your other animals. If he has a history of biting, even more reason to be done with him. That probably sounded harsh... I feel for any animal that has been mistreated by its owners, but unfortunately you can't save them all.

I'm not sure if he's actually "vicious" but he showed a tendency towards some aggression which wouldn't be unusual coming into a new situation. I would've worked through that if humanely possible but I cannot and will not tolerate being lied to. "David" told the owners and me we could have access and "open communication"about Tek and to each other and but rescinds this so he can monitor all conversations. I have to wonder what he told them about me?
What did he say or do that would be compromised by us talking with each other?
I met the owners when the dog was allegedly let out of quarantine by the city. He brought the owners and the dog to me at a park we frequent but they had all of his possessions as if I had committed to taking the dog which I hadn't.
I told him I wanted to see how Tek and Lu got along, I wanted to know more about why they were giving up the dog after six years and what actually happened to put him into a quarantine situation?
I kept him for several days and he did seem to calm down and he was a very sweet loving boy but not knowing anything about him plus he had no tags, collar, paperwork or anything gave me a feeling like something was being hidden from me!
I did asked where his tags and collar were but the "trainer" claims he {the dog} never had them when he was quarantined...right!
Too many holes in the story means a probable liability for us and future problems when looked at rationally unfortunately my heart breaking has nothing to do with being rational and I hope I didn't doom Tek to another bad situation.
I was just too upset to do my show tonight and for that I apologize........ couldn't help it......

Thanks scs!
I just wish I could do more for him and it seems that he has quite a few issues now.
For some reason the guy I got the dog from {who used to be my trainer} is withholding information about Tek and doesn't want us to have anything to do with the owners whom I met when Tek was released from quarantine.
He initially said "I have no problem with you having full access to them" that has now turned into "I'll be the go between for you and the owners" wth?
I can't understand why he doesn't want me to talk with them to find out more about the dog?
It makes me believe there is more to this dogs history than he told us. I saw him charge them $450.
He said it was for "future training" but now he say's "only if the dog needs it" he needs a lot more than the two days he spent with Tek. $450 is the standard fee for adopting a dog from any shelter type situation here in MA.
This poor boy is so thin and so needy I hate to send him back to this shmuck but I cannot afford to insure him knowing he has a long bite history or something that is going to make keeping him a liability for ..... and I. Tek has attacked Luna a few times over a stick and seemed he was going to make moves on me when I demanded he give me a ball back.
Under these circumstances I told him it wasn't working out today by phone. He said "I'll pick him up tomorrow" and hung up on me. He didn't ask why or even seem to care about the poor boy at all imo. This seems to be monetarily motivated for this guy who has a big mouth and no patience for anyone else's opinions on dogs although he claims to "love Luna" so he trained her for less money........Most folks who've come in contact with him at the dog park I frequent despise this guy and I had been sticking up for him...I feel really foolish now.
What would any of you do in similar circumstances?
C.B.

I would put a gun to his head (trainer's) and make him confess he is a bad person. Just in case the situation went out of control, and as to protect me and others -in case he knows personal defense, carries a gun himself or similar- I would try to set this within a controlled environment; avoiding eventual risks in case he responded with counter-violence. Meaning: I could have him over for dinner, so we are at home; leave others out of the equation; make sure there are no windows in the room (in case a gun missfired...); have a sniper for back-up; etc. etc. etc.
If he confessed I should be able to determine whether he is "guilty" or just 'playing along' out of fear; Once I had done that:
If he seems to be innocent: I would apologize and offer him a tea (prepaired, of course, with the powder from that "after-rape-pill" which erases your memories, to my advantage);
If, on the contrary, he seems to be guilty, I would have him "home-arrested" and confined to my basement for no longer than a year or two, depending on the confession.

Of course I am from South America and things are very different here, and while this may sound a bit too much, or on the nutty side to you, it may be kind of standard behavior here, as we are, say, a bit wild.

That sure is a nice view Nate. Looks like the air would be crisp and fresh as well. Hope the loan goes well and you love your new residence.

Thanks, phonedude.

That day happened to be very clear. Come winter when inversions set in, the air is some of the most polluted you'll find in the US.

Here's downtown SLC during an inversion:
