Hello all!

We are currently being scraped by the owner of two websites (and he has many more): e-cigarette-mart dot com AND e-cigarette-global dot com.

We have sent him emails asking him politely to stop stealing our content and he doesn't respond. He takes our videos, changes the url and then posts them as his own.

Any suggestions? Do you know who he is? If you do... could you put us in contact with him? We would love to give him the opportunity to do right, apologize, and write his own content. I am beginning to attempt to get this guy banned from google and would love to hear any suggestions you may have to help me with my fight.

As there is enough business and information to go around, the least he could do is play friendly and write his own content!

Thanks for your help!

thanks guys for the quick response.

yeah... i keep finding dead ends as it is in China. His official blog name is SmokeyTom. So keep an eye out for him...

If anyone else has this problem with this issue... I am using google dot com/dmca.html Digital Millennium Copyright Act as my next step. So sad I have to do this. I will update this thread if it works.

Rorschach - thanks for the offer! Don't ruin your bball bat for little ole' me! Blood is almost impossible to get out of wood:)

Off topic, but why are the e-cigs in the store on your link so expensive?

Jarvis - thanks for the question.

If you purchase the mini without refills it is $69. They do range from $49 to $110 online, so we are at the lower end of the pricing scale.

We also offer sets including the e-cig, it's accessories and then either +10, +20, +30, and so on. As with many of our competitors you will find in this forum, we offer great customer service, we quickly honor warranty issues and offer specials every now and then.

Lastly, we continually evaluate our pricing structure and appreciate your comment for consideration in our next pricing evaluation.

Cheers!

Maybe there is some Chinese authority to regulate this type of trade. In Commie countries there usually are some. So if you can find it and file a complaint, it might mean lots of trouble for the Chinese business. Not because of copyright, but because they very well might (and did, in my opinion) circumvent local regulations and (e.g.tax) rules.

Thanks guys for all of your help.

I am going the google and yahoo directly route for now... see what happens.
Digital Millennium Copyright Act if anyone ever needs it. If they see our argument, all sites associated with said owner can be blocked on google forever!

If you are interested....

Copyscape - Search for Website Plagiarism and Duplicate Content Online This site will tell you who is duplicating your content and if you search for www.e-cigarette-forum.com you will find that the guy responsible for stealing our content, is also stealing content from here. (i wondered why his forums were set up with exactly the same headers, etc)

If you are unfamiliar with SEO, duplicate content can be deadly to your organic rankings (aside from being absolute bs). So good luck all! Check up on yourself every once in awhile. You never know who is passing for ya!

There are two chances of getting some 'justice' with these guys, slim & none and slim's outa town! Business is done differently than we are used to and has its own 'culture'. The factories producing e-cigs are always copying each others models and selling them as their own. Ownership of the factories is often shared with numerous investors having a percentage stake and each trying to get the best deals for 'their' customers. It can be very complicated and even when you think you're dealing with 3 or 4 different suppliers it can be the same organisation! That's one of the reasons that we visit our factories on a regular basis and have developed a valuable insight into the industry and business culture. Good luck anyway.
John.

As to how you might keep them from stealing your content. Watermarks. Overlays that STAY. Drop your product name throughout the video. Show a box in the video with your products name on it.

These would all make stealing the content more trouble than its worth. If they steal it it's like free advertising to you!

Good luck.
