What's happening with the ECF Wiki? Does anyone have overall control to try and make this into a useable part of the site?

It could be a really valuable resource but it seems plagued with spam - I have deleted 500+ pages of it, plus redirects and user pages.

Surely, all these dead pages must be costing bandwidth and storage? Can they not be deleted? Or do you need a volunteer Admin?

Hey Rolygate and other Senior mods

Work done so far on the Wiki:

  • Cleaned out all the spam (about 150 pages) - but blanked pages and spam pics need deletion
  • Categorized most of the articles
  • Set up more user boxes
  • Written articles on various mods
  • Added lots of useful redirects
  • Copied over some key articles from the forum
  • Restored the main page to something closer to its pre-spam state
  • Restored the Main Page/Talk to its pre-spam state
Lots and lots more to do to make it usable - spam control takes a lot of time so perhaps we could have the following security:

  • Move tab removed
  • E-mail check-link for new editors
  • Super-user control for me to lock pages, delete spammer accounts etc
Any thoughts or comments?

OK I have got access to the Wiki now and suggest we do this:

1. Create some wiki Mods (admins).
2. Open a new private forum on ECF for the wiki Mods.

It needs a software upgrade etc etc but the first thing is probably to get some admins sorted out. On Mediawiki they are called Sysops.

As soon as the forum is set up it will be announced here. Then we can discuss what to do next.

@ Eddie, I've been a active editor on a few wiki's in my time and it is a thankless task. Keep up the good work- with any luck you can bring about a resurgence of interest and get some good unbiased content.

@Angus. I blame you. But thanks for pressing the delete button over and over... its fun isn't it? hehe
