since all usb ports are the same voltage output 5volts,that what the u in usb stands "universal",,,
plug something else into that port,if it works then your laptop port if fine,,which it probably is ,,,

i had the same issue when i used the slim type battery,,sometimes i get use them for few hours,,other tims i would get a few minutes,,no matter how long i would leave it on the charger..

do yourself a money saving favor and get a ego or rive kit

one last thing,,,i always charge my ego batteries on my laptop ports ,,

I Agree the Voltage of USB ports is standard. However what matters is the amount of current that you draw.

I work in IT and I have heard some really bad stories , expensive servers motherboards being trashed by charging devices (not just e-cig batteries) of USB ports.

You are 100 percent correct!

At any rate, plug it into the wall, to be sure....

i did say laptop port right ???

server usb's are a totally different creature and very few [if any]here actually have access to a server hub

If you have a cable box check to see if it has a USB port or 2 and try charging it in there..I charge mine in my cable box most of the time it has 2 USB's one in the front and one in the back. Dish boxes might have them too..also try to clean the charger and batteries connector with a tissue or paper towel.

The architecture is the same.
USB will deliver a maximum of 500mA (total for all devices connected to same USB Hub)
If you exceed that for some reason , say you also have other USB devices running from the same internal hub or your charger is not operating properly , then on of the following may (I don't mean it is bound to happen - but why take the risk ) happen.

1) internal protection circuitry will cut the power .
2) the laptop or desktop will crash
3) you will do damage to your motherboard

architecture is not the same,,

those other things you listed as "maybe" "possibly" happening all require the same thing to happen,,a short

i have been charging ecigs,,blu was my first,401's and now ego on my laptop,,also i have charged cell phones pda's kindle's
and just about anything else you can think of that uses a usb charger and i have yet to have any problems

btw,,did you know you can change the output power of a usb port...more then one port with all of them at different voltages !!!

but the default is still the same constant 5 volt OUTPUT .servers are set up differently

No I beg to disagree. It does not necessitate a short. Just a current drain in excess of what it is capable of providing.

I am not saying that you personally should not charge your e-cig from your laptop.
I am only stating that this is one thing I would personally avoid . I too charge my cell phone but not my e-cig, why would I risk a piece of equipment costing many hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a china made usb charger ?

Yes you can change the limiting voltage of the USB ports but what if this fails.

Again I am not saying that something will happen . I am saying that it may happen and have heard of it happening .
I (and I speak for my self) would not risk it.

P.S. by architecture I mean that of the USB specs.
