Hi guys,
Dr. Curran is in full support of electronic cigarettes. He doesn't like tobacco, but that is not in an e cig. In fact, we are starting a study with him and 3 other harvard MDs about how e-cigs help schizophrenics. I know that sounds weird, but it turns out that schizos need the nicotine hit to counteract their meds, so they smoke. But the chemicals in smoke cause their meds to not work as well. Dr. Curran believes that e-cigs would be able to reduce the amount of medication that schizophrenics need if they smoked an e-cig vs an analog.

Also wanted to note that unethical business practice by cheap-electronic-cigarettes.co.uk All they do is steal our press releases and change their name. Complete copy cats. Unethical and boring!

Please ignore them completely. I hate plagiarism.

Thanks!

Hi all,

Just to quickly defend ourselves. We have not plagiarised. I have copied the email from Dr Curran that we received and released. Unfortunately e-cigarette.com are just trying to protect their business. They need to understand that Dr Curran will endorse any company selling ecigs as it promotes his website and ideals. It hink that they will also find that it is a generic email sent out which can be used for promotional purposes. The details of the email are only what we re-produced and nothing more.

Subject: [SPAM] Physicians and Nurses Against tobacco

Dear Mr. Kitt, Thank you for your message.

The electronic cigarette is an effective harm-reduction therapy in the treatment of nicotine addiction. Nicotine, a powerful psychoactive substance, is highly addictive and those dependent on nicotine are perpetually anxious, depressed, irritable and restless without repetitive daily dosing. The use of pernicious tobacco products to supply nicotine addicts with their drug is indefensible. The electronic-cigarette offers an effective form of nicotine delivery with significant health and safety advantages over tobacco products.

The Organization of Physicians and Nurses Against Tobacco would be delighted to endorse your electronic cigarettes as an important harm-reduction alternative to tobacco products in the treatment of nicotine addiction. The public has to be trained to think of smoking in terms of nicotine addiction, which can be controlled with electronic cigarettes, but this will take some time.

Physicians and Nurses Against Tobacco (PANAT) is a non-profit organization. Please visit our website www unholysmoke.org. Thank you, Claude A. Curran MD

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. A "Harvard trained" doctor. Ok, so what's so special about that? There's a million of them.

I also saw a claim on that site saying that e cigarettes prevent heart disease. While they may turn out to be true, it is a false claim, un backed by any science, and it will hurt this industry in the end.

Yup. e-cigarettedirect has been coming out with a lot of "press releases" as of late and at annoying regularity. They're nothing more than glorified advertising, and not legit press releases. I tend to ignore them.

But it only adds weight to the anti e-smokers case that manufacturers are putting out these because they have a vested interest in the outcome. E-Cigs dig their own hole one shovelfull at a time. :(

Smoking Everywhere is doing the same thing as well, make a "news story" appear it is on a legit TV site. 8-o

Sounds like an interesting study; will they by any chance gather data on other health measures, like subject's lung or cardiovascular health, or whether participants who smoked quit or reduce cigarette use?

It seems like as long as they're gathering data anyway it would be easy enough to do.

You seem like you have direct contact, any chance you could suggest it? Good, verifiable data on any of that would be invaluable to all of us.

agree - there are doctors on both sides...and just because something doesn't have smoke does not mean it's safe. I'd sure like for ecigs to be genuinely safe or safer than analogs but give me some research, a paper published in a medical journal or something.

In any case, one point that I haven't seen emphasized much is the stepwise reduction of nicotine reduction that is available through ecigs. If you really wanted to quit nicotine altogether, ecigs may be a better solution than lockjaw....oh I mean nicotine gum or the patch which is wholly unappealing even from afar (never tried it and don't care to).
