E-cigarettes gain fans and critics (South Carolina)

I'm amazed that anyone still claims "there's no evidence e-cigs can help smokers quit" after hundreds of thousands of vapers have repeatedly stated that's precisely how they quit, and after clinical trials have found e-cigs to be more effective than NRT for smoking cessation.

The good news is that all pro/con news stories (which is what most reporters write about controversial issues) about e-cigs encourage more smokers to try e-cigs. Even the fear mongering news stories about e-cigs encourage more smokers to try e-cigs.

I think you are right, after all there is no such thing as bad publicity.

The challenge is to increase the public profile of e-cigarettes. After that comes accurate information - first people need to know they are out there. And they need to know that gas station and 7/11 ecigs are a tiny fraction of the offering, and at the lowest end of the scale.

I've noticed the media using pictures of devices other than cigalikes more often in their articles. They are most likely using them because they look foreign/controversial to people who aren't familiar with them in an attempt to increase interest in the article. What's happening as a result is people are being informed that devices other than cigalikes exist whether it was the media's intent or not.

This is a very important piece of information to be spreading. It will much harder to convince people that ecigs should be lumped in with cigarettes if all of a sudden ecigs look nothing like cigarettes. Also it would help defeat the common argument that an ecig user may confuse people and make them think it's ok to smoke in a place where it is not.
