Here's some facts about antifreeze and its ingredients.

Ingredients:
Methanol: Methanol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ethylene Glycol: Ethylene glycol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Propylene Glycol: Propylene glycol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol, carbinol, wood alcohol, wood naphtha or wood spirits, is an extremely toxic chemical with formula CH3OH (often abbreviated MeOH). Drinking 1 ml will cause blindness, and as little as 5 ml will cause death, as many unfortunate individuals found out during the Prohibition.
This is what's going to make you drop dead within minutes of ingesting it.

Propylene Glycol lists one of its uses "As a less-toxic antifreeze".
From the Wikipedia anti-freeze article:
Propylene glycol is "generally recognized as safe" by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in food. However, propylene glycol-based antifreeze should not be considered safe for consumption.
Ethylene Glycol is poisonous, but if you were to drink some of this you'd have some time to get to the hospital. Antidotes are readily available. I found this interesting note in the Wikipedia article "Ethylene Glycol Poisoning":
Ethylene glycol has a low vapor pressure; it does not evaporate readily at normal temperatures and therefore high concentrations in air or intoxication are unlikely to occur following inhalational exposures.[8] There may be a slight risk of poisoning where mists or fogs are generated, although this rarely leads to poisoning as ethylene glycol causes irritation and coughing when breathed in, alerting victims to its presence.[9] Ethylene glycol is not well absorbed through skin meaning poisoning following dermal exposure is also uncommon.

Propylene Glycol was added to anti-freeze to make it safer for animals who like the sweet taste. Ethylene Glycol, the previous antifreeze thickener, is poisonous. Propylene Glycol is not. PG is in snowcone juice, toothpaste, gel deodorants, salad dressings, and many other food items. Check the labels. Other than ththink at, the only other ingredients are food flavors, water, and in some cases a touch of grain alcohol (think clear alcoholic beverages) for added throat hit.

The scares go on. It's hard to clear out a verbal smear from the public's mind.

Here's a study that shows the ingredients and an analysis of the vapor. It all meets WHO standards. That's something that tobacco will never be able to claim.

A link to this came up on another thread today: http://www.healthnz.co.nz/DublinEcigBenchtopHandout.pdf While it isn't PG-related, it is a nice, readable, look at vapor compared to cig smoke.

Kind of neat to me was the discussion of nicotine -- 16 mg PV delivered 10%, per puff, of the nicotine found in puff testing a Marl red. All kinds of variables, of course, I doubt (but am not sure) they were doing blood checks for nicotine, just another factoid :)

:D I thought this was the first troll attempt I'd seen, but seems to be someone who hasn't read enough research. After an exhausting amount I'm perfectly content in my safety. Cancer is off the radar without question, and that's all the peace of mind I need, having had 4 grandparents die of cancer. Saying it isn't 100% safe is one thing, but saying it is no safer than smoking... that's just plain daft. :D
