I just got off the phone with a reporter who is doing a story about e-cigarette use on cruise lines. Curious about the "lay of the land" (or should I say "sea"?) I Googled "cruise lines e-cigarettes" and was led to...ready for this? ECF

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ise-lines-allow-e-cig-smoking-anywhere-4.html

OK, so I escalated my questions up the chain of command at Carnival and was told that for now the policy is e-cigs only in smoking allowed areas. The fellow I spoke with suggested we write or send an email to guestsolutionssupport@carnival.com and voice our thoughts on the matter of e-cigs being allowed only in "smoking" areas. I'm sending both an email and a written letter and hope others will do the same.

The reporter told me that some lines did not allow use of e-cigarettes in the passenger's cabin. I told her that would be an impossible rule to enforce because there is no way to tell an e-cigarette has been used. No lingering odor. No sticky yellow film.

I pointed out that theaters allow the use of artificial fog machines and the patrons were not running outside choking. She did not know until I told her that these machines use the same base chemical, propylene glycol, as e-cigarettes to generate the fog.

If you take cruises, you might want to think about taking advantage of the email address provided to let the management at Carnival Cruise Lines know your thoughts.

I asked the reporter to send me a link when her story is published.

Ah, Elaine, ECF has the answer to everything. If you want to know how long to cook a pheasant for or how to fix a defective diesel glowplug, it's probably here somewhere. You just have to filter through four million posts to find it...

But as it happens there has always been a very strong info base on e-cigs & travel here, including on cruise liners. If you want to speak with aircrew, TSA officers or experienced cruise-goers then this is the place to do it.
