i am so confused.

i recently purchased an ecig for my mom and have been in the process of purchasing more for friends so i could get them to quit analogs.

well my plan went all downhill tonight because my mom who had been happily vaping for two weeks saw on the south korean news on tv tonight that e cigs were found to cause lung cancer and that they should not be used.:(:-x

we got into a little argument because i said that it must not be the same product but she claims to have seen the e cig device on tv and that it seems to work just like how hers works.

& now she vows to never use hers again and to make sure that no one around her does.

anybody w/ more information on this? it would be so helpful if i knew what was goin` on before i could agree with her to quit e cigs or to defend the product. :-x

People beleive whatever they choose to beleive. Sometimes there is no changing peoples minds.
Whats she gonna do......go back to tobacco cigarettes? Like they don't cause Cancer? Hell, with cigarettes if you don't get Cancer, you get one of a handful of different lung related illnesses.

Plus......E-Juice is ALOT cheaper than cigarettes. Even if it did cause Cancer (which I don't beleive for one second that it does) I'd still pick the cheaper way to get it.

E-Cigs still seem like the lesser of 2 evils.

ohhhhh mother.

finally the news is uppp. last night it was so hard to find any information but since it was breakin` news last night on the korean channel on direct tv or whatnot

now my korean translation isn`t THAT great to be able to translate every single word in the newspaper but i can get 90% of the information

but from what i read it doesn`t seem like there is any definitive evidence. it js caused a SCARE amongst asians b/c my parents are perfect examples of the typical asian parents who would trip out when they hear a NEWS reporter put [PRODUCT] and [CANCER] together.

i don`t know how i`m goin` to calm her down from this one.

Electric cigarettes, used to quit smoking, are said to be able to cause lung cancer and other illnesses by the korean FDA.

In order to use these products safely the guidelines must be followed and the amount vaped in a day must be kept minimal.

You should only vape 1 [this is the part i'm not sure about. it is either 1 cartomizer or 1 "pack" but not sure] for 10 days max. The further you stray from these guidelines, you will experience symptoms such as nausea and inability to concentrate.

Also, though e cigs do not contain nicotine (wtf?), they do contain the same ingredients as tobacco oil so the same effects as smoking are likely.

the kFDA warns "E cigs can cause lung cancer and other diseases and people who are sensitive to allergens, pregnant women, children under 18, people who have infections in their mouth & throat MUST not use this product"

the kFDA warns that though it is true that addiction to e cigs is rare, the claims that are made that e cigs are the healthier alternative are not true so people should exercise caution.

This I think sums it up the easiest for people to understand, so they can make the most informed decision possible for themselves at this time.

The Rest of the Story: Tobacco News Analysis and Commentary: July 2009

Links provided to resources. Sorry, since basically everything I've seen by "news" outlets currently just parodies the slanted FDA release "Ecigs bad because we say so!" instead of actual unbiased facts from both sides, I don't know of and don't foresee in the near future any Korean language sources you might be able to provide them with to help in their decision.

The US FDA and the korean FDA should get together and go bowling.

Ask her if she believes everything she hears on television. Reason with her, explain you and only doing it because you care, ask her to research it in greater depths before she just throws in the towel and gives up. Ecigs are not 100% safe, and they are not advertised that way (depending on which company you are talking about) they are advertised as the safer alternative. In my honest opinion they are safer. But let her make the decision for herself, ask her to give it a second chance and a real shot, after all you want her around-tell her that!
