E-liquid VG or Optim?

Oh ok! Got it!

For some reason I thought that Synthetic Glycerin is petroleum distilled, propylene comes off as a top fraction. Glycerin is made by adding chlorine to the molecule and then hydrolyzing the trichloropropane produced. Synthetic glycerin is used in exacting applications in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals because of its 99.7 percent purity. Prescription and over-the-counter drugs were initially formulated with synthetic glycerin and received FDA approval as such. To change to natural glycerin would entail new FDA approval processes.

When it comes to natural Glycerin from biodiesel fuel.... renewable sources of vegetable oil, waste cooking oil and beef tallow has created a market glut of glycerin. Biodiesel is prepared by adding methanol to the oil/fat source. The fatty acid portion of the molecule is esterified to biodiesel, and glycerin is produced as a byproduct. Crude glycerin is distilled and purified to a possible 99.5 percent purity with ion exchange resins.

But of course I've been proven wrong so far so I probably wrong.

I think you're actually right.

Just sayin'. lol

I was wrong.
I apologize.
Somehow in my memory stick somebody else’s opinion that after all chemical manipulations all USP grade glycerin deserves designation “synthetic”…
However, what we have is glycerin made from different sources but of the same degree of purity. And I have an interesting observation about taste buds and purity of a product. In my lab I routinely use “absolute alcohol” 200 poof which is 99.8% pure. Sure I tasted it; it was much worse than vodka. So, its method of high purification does not bother with removing bad tasting components which in vodka are removed by eliminating heads and tails and/or buy filtering. So, high purity of product alone does not guarantee pure taste. I wonder now, can it be that at the same purity level VG has a better taste than synthetic G?
I do not think e-liquid producers are too dumb to let better glycerin to skip away. I do not think Dow glycerin is much more expensive, it has the same properties as other varieties of USP glycerin.

Disagree. Please check the MSDS here:
MSDS - 320072

Wow, Sigma-Aldrich… You make me laugh!
How to work with water according to Sigma-Aldrich:

“Handle with gloves. Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Use proper glove removal technique (without touching glove's outer surface) to avoid skin contact with this product. Dispose of ontaminated gloves after use in accordance with applicable laws and good laboratory practices. Wash and dry hands.”

“Wash and dry hands” after working with water! Hilarious!
I thought better about Sigma-Aldrich; maybe I should stop ordering from them.

That is a very good point, actually.

If I can ever get my hands on any, I'd like to try it, because I've actually read on this forum that it does taste better, and there isn't that greasy feel on exhale like there is with VG.

I've just tried USP VG in an e-cig (with no other ingredients), and the taste was alright, I suppose, but that greasy feel was horrible.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at... Some of these MSDS go overboard.

I agree. VG does have that greasy feel on the exhale. I personally think that might be all glycerins since it's so thick. But maybe Synthetic G might not have that...maybe optim might have a pure taste who knows lol. If I found a chemical that didn't give me that greasy feeling that would be cool.

You know that you can Adjust the Thickness of VG or a e-Liquid by putting a Small amount of H2O in it?

And that Most people who DIY Dilute their VG to some Degree to Improve Wicking.

I can't speak for FastCarsAndCubanCigars, but I find that greasy feel on exhale not only with pure VG, but with high VG mixes as well.

So a quick update!

I think I found a company that uses Optim in their juices.

I don't want to release the name yet till I have hard facts but if this provides to check out it will be interesting.

I'm also trying to figure out how they got their hands on it as well. Not sure if they have connections with someone or something but we shall see.

In my opinion I hope they are serious because to make claims like this is kinda a big deal. But again still gathering facts.

Just thought I'd share my progress.
