Last year I co-founded the E-Cigarette Summit at London's Royal Society. This one-day event was a watershed in the discussion of e-cigarettes in the United Kingdom and, to a lesser extent, Europe.

The objective of the event was to have a public discussion between various experts on the issues, and to give air to as many viewpoints as possible: this was not a commercial event, and the discussions were entirely on public health and policy issues. My co-organiser, Amanda, was in charge of the programme and, as a professional conference organiser, was able to create a very balanced program.

I had no doubt that science was on our side, and that the overall message would be positive. The result was resounding, with messages going around the world press. We have archived the transcipts on vaping.com/science if you're interested.

This year the Summit is running again, almost a year to the day after the last one. Amanda has worked incredibly hard to put together what I believe is the perfect program - it's a proper belter! I will, again, post the transcripts - and am trying to work out how to live-blog the day's proceedings (any tips welcomed).

We're going to try to do a similar event in the United States in the New Year, but nothing concrete as yet.

[UPDATE]

We will be liveblogging the event starting at 9am UTC on November 13th: http://vaping.com/ecigsummit2014/live-blog

Yeah - I was thinking there might be a wordpress plugin or something which allowed news-media style live blogging. I'll have a look when I get a moment.

Also, content-wise, there's some really exciting stuff, but I think the highlight for me is that Peter Hajek will be announcing the findings from the e-cigarette Cochrane review, which he is running!

Can you cross-post the blog entries on the ECF thread you created?
Because remembering to follow blog entries makes my brain hurt.

This thread? B/c the link to the blog page is here already

The blog will be a live, scrolling blog, based on what I read about this plug-in. Don't think there's a way for it to cross-post to ECF threads, except manually.

This Thanksgiving Season,
In gracious decorum,
I'm Thankful to SJ,
For creating this forum.

Your work and endeavors,
In protecting our rights,
Are a tireless pursuit;
You fight the good fight.

So I say again that
SJ is one reason,
That I am especially
Thankful this Season.

Thank you, SmokeyJoe, for everything you do for us!!! Happy Thanksgiving. :)

Your live-blogging with Neil McLaren at the 2nd ECF-Founded E-Cigarette Summit will be at 3:00AM my time. I'm usually up at that time, so I intend to tune in.

Dumb question, but I thought I'd better be certain of the time conversion. 9:00AM UTC on Thursday would be 3:00AM CST (in the USA) on Wednesday night, right? To be clear, 3 hours after midnight on Wednesday night, right?

Two people from IG-ED (our German vapers association) are attending. Oh wow, that program sounds SO exciting!

It must be great to actually rub shoulders with some of these people whom I have always greatly admired over the internet.

.. glad that two of our very active members are going and not myself, I'd probably be like a star-struck teenager

- Oh, and in case anybody wonders why I would feel like hopping up and down: quite a number of the participants are household names among vapers here in Europe. Clive Bates, Dr. Farsalinos, Dr Jacques Le Houezec, Lorien Jollye, Louise Ross, Professor Jean Francois Etter, Professor Peter Hajek, Professor Riccardo Polosa, Professor Robert West .... OMG.. OMG.... *hops up and down* :)

I wish you all a very successful conference - and do keep us posted, please :)
