Last year I co-founded the E-Cigarette Summit at London's Royal Society. This one-day event was a watershed in the discussion of e-cigarettes in the United Kingdom and, to a lesser extent, Europe.
The objective of the event was to have a public discussion between various experts on the issues, and to give air to as many viewpoints as possible: this was not a commercial event, and the discussions were entirely on public health and policy issues. My co-organiser, Amanda, was in charge of the programme and, as a professional conference organiser, was able to create a very balanced program.
I had no doubt that science was on our side, and that the overall message would be positive. The result was resounding, with messages going around the world press. We have archived the transcipts on vaping.com/science if you're interested.
This year the Summit is running again, almost a year to the day after the last one. Amanda has worked incredibly hard to put together what I believe is the perfect program - it's a proper belter! I will, again, post the transcripts - and am trying to work out how to live-blog the day's proceedings (any tips welcomed).
We're going to try to do a similar event in the United States in the New Year, but nothing concrete as yet.
