Something is rotten in the state of Denmark8-o

This week it was announced that Ecigarettes and eliquid are going to be banned until and if they get approved as pharmaceuticals, since they deliver nicotine that is toxic. The ban means that danish reatailers can not sell ecigarettes and accesoires until/if they get approved. But people can buy them from other EU countries, but customs may decide to confiscate the shipments until / if they get approved.

I wonder why Nicorette products like the Inhaler got aproved? I have no doubt that the producers of nicorette are behind this ban. And how the heck can Cigarettes be legal then if they like everyone knows "are not safe" but is responsible for the death of 15000 danes every year. Some cancer groups have also raised concern that ecigarettes are going to create new smokers that will switch to ordinary cigarettes.

So Ignorance and red tape is thriving here. Us E-smokers only hope is that the EU will approve Ecigarettes and overrule the danish BAN.

Youre right DC.
Failing that, i guess i will have to grow my own tobacco, and start looking into nic extraction methods!
By the way, i don't see any reason for banning the e-cigs themselves. If they did that, they would also have to ban a lot of other smoking paraphernalia normally used for smoking certain other plant materials......

exactly, they cannot ban the devices themselves just like the cant ban police scanners. they just cant ban a bunch of electronic components put together in a certain way.

also they cannot ban nicotine because because it is used widely as an insecticide. what are they going to do develop a nicotine licensing system? nope. too much paper-work. any government trying to ban these things is calling your bluff and probably acting in the interest of their own profitability.

Hmmm... Its very disappointing that rather then investigate the matter (which would require money, resources, and involve liability) it would appear that the Danish government has decided to simply ban the related products and wait for someone else to investigate the possible (non-existent) health risks to their citizens.

In Canada (so far) e-cig haven't hit the political radar yet.

Is their extensive lobbying in Danish politics as there is in the American system?

And does anyone have a link to an English languagte article on this that is unbiased?

The only official statement can be read here in english:
Illegal distribution of electronic cigarettes

Its from the danish medicines agency.

Ah...it's almost worse then a ban. If something is banned, at least the concept exists that it can be proven safe and 'un-banned' again. If something is considered a medicinal product then (in my experience at least) there are many more steps involved in 'un-banning' it.

"The Danish Medicines Agency generally considers electronic cigarettes that contain extracted nicotine to constitute medicinal products due to the products’ pharmacological effect"

Precedents are such a double edged sword ... I'd much rather e-cigs stay in thier current state of being "below the radar" then going through a torturous approval process that might involve them being available only via perscription...

Very true Femur.
Sadly, we cant duck below the radar now that e-cigs are out in the open. I'm afraid there is now no way to get around the government definition of "extracted nicotine" = "medicinal product". That means there will be a long struggle ahead to get e-cigs approved. I guess they will need to go through the same approval procedures that are used for nic patches, nicotine gum and other NRT's.
On the bright side, NRT's are not prescription items in Denmark. They can be bought at pharmacies and many supermarkets and gas stations!

I don't think you should be concerned about customs when ordering from other countries.
In Israel we have the same ban for over a year now, with the exact same "excuse". Retailers around here sell the devices only with the 0-nic carts, but I've ordered juices and carts from abroad and never had a problem with customs. Hope that your experience would be the same.
