As a fellow asthmatic, I know how horrible asthma attacks can be. First, I have to tell you that all of our suggestions are exactly that, suggestions. These suggestions should not be taken as any sort of medical diagnosis or diagnosis of symptoms. With that being said, I have converted many of my friends, some asthmatic, to vaping. The worst ecigs out there are the gas station brands and when I gave my friends a gas station ecig, every single one of them coughed their head off. Even now that I've become a heavy vaper, if I were to vape a gas station ecig right now I would get thrown into a asthma attack. Like everyone esle has said, the gas station ecigs are extremely harsh and I highly recommend upgrading to an ego style battery and use juice from any of the many juice vendors we have. A second thought is, as mentioned before, you could have an acute allergy to propylene glycol. To test this theory, contact a juice vendor and make a small order of a 100% VG juice. If still you cannot vape without coughing, use the method of not inhaling. VG juices are no where near as harsh as pg. Also I might suggest lowering your nic level to 16mg/18 mg.

both ecigs I bought only have the only pg in them and are 24mg strength
as I only smoke light cigs 0.6 nicotine, I should have bought a weaker strength, 18mg or less
if I inhale the ecig I start coughing

I bought e-lites and another brand from a local ecig retailer both 24mg but the e-lites aren`t as strong as the others
so when my asthma is better I will only try the e-lites and not inhale and see what happens then
and will use the ecig and still smoke 10 cigs a day instead of the usual 20, I don`t want to rush myself into giving up smoking

thanks everyone for all the info :)

Hi Joan, I also have asthma, a couple things I can tell you I have noticed for me. One the higher nic has more of a throat hit to start with so could be part of it, but having been vaping a 50/50 vg/pg up til recently the higher pg I have which is still only 70/30 has caused me some issues as I adjust to it. I find having something to drink on hand as I start to vape in the morning a must, as well as Proper inhalation technique help me through it.

I have asthma as well. I've noticed that some flavors bother me, and also high PG bothers me. I got a starter kit from Smokeless Image last year, and loved the flavors, but if I was vaping for long I would start coughing. 2 things helped me. The first was learning how to inhale long and slow into my mouth and then taking a kind of shallow breath into my lungs. The second was, I decided to try some of the other flavors out there. I stumbled onto 60/40 VG/pg.... that stopped the coughing unless I'm using a particularly harsh juice (cinnamon or anything high in citrus bothers me).

Talk to your doctor for sure, but a lower nicotine level and lower PG may help. I use 12mg.

Thanks for all the great advice :)

when I feel well enough I will start off
1. with the milder of the two I bought, the e-lites
2. I won`t inhale
3. I will only use the tobacco flavour tips until I get this sorted out
(shame though as I ordered some cappuccino flavour 18mg after someone sent me a sample of it to try and I loved it)
4. as suggested I will have a drink on hand while I vape
5. I doubt my doc will have any experience of e-cigs so I might ask my chemist today when I go to collect my reliever inhaler (a chemist might be the best person to understand the chemical aspect)

Hi Joan: I had a doctor visit yesterday and he pointed out the obvious to me.
The ecig is a vaporizer so as any vaporizer would, it loosens and drains the sinus's and can cause post nasal drip.
The post nasal activity causes the morning coughing things up, sore throat etc... He told me to stay with it and it will pass as my body adjusts. Having cigarettes on top of this just makes it worse, so he said to try my hardest to get off the cigarettes completely and my body would adjust to the ecig faster without cigarettes continuing to muck it up.
I do find VG and lower NIC juices are much easier to tolerate. Try buying a bottle of straight VG and weaken your juices.
I would suspect with asthma the coughing alone could trigger an attack. I'd suggest you have a conversation with your doctor about this. He may know more about ecigs than you'd think he/she would. My doctor has been very supportive and knows a lot on the subject.
