hello all! been vaping for a couple of years after smoking rollies for about 20 years. i have noticed something and wondered if anyone else has had the same.

i initially started on V2's and went over to an innokin battery with a tank. asthma was fine.

then i went to a totally wicked vape pro VV with their tank using boge cartridge style atomizer and been using that setup for a little over a year.

i then decided to try a kanger protank 3. the atomizer that came with it (lasted only 2 days) did not give my asthma any issues. i changed it out for their new style atomizer (version 2.2?) which does not have the visible wicks. and whenever i use that i get a very harsh hit just past the back of my throat and it makes my asthma bad.

same juice, same voltage etc.
the juice i use is TW titan menthol. when i smoked, menthol made me feel nauseous. when it comes to vaping it seems that menthol is the only one that doesnt have that effect.

so, would the issue be too little air in the vape draw? too much? heating too much or not enough? vaping at 3.3v or 3.6v on the protank also effects my asthma on the new atomizer. maybe its the metal used for the coil? when i inhale the vapour feels colder (could be the menthol though?)

i am going to try and research more as to the difference between these but my initial search didnt give anything useful.

so wondered if anyone else has experienced similar or may have a good educated guess. will help with further purchases. i cant afford to keep buying things just to test.

cheers for any answers :)

(edit: also tried a kross VV pipe mod with the protank 3 mini and a long drip tip. feels smoother but that makes my asthma bad. it is also using the "new" kanger atomizer)

Hello and welcome to the forum Rob. Glad to have you here!:)

Did you "prime" your new atomizer before you used it? To prime it take a few "unpowered puffs" to pull the eliquid into your coil. If you did and are still having a problem and are getting a burnt taste (we call those "dry hits"), if usually means your wick cannot pull the eliquid fast enough to keep up with your battery. There are a couple of things you can do:

1. Dial down your voltage. This will vaporize the eliquid at a slower rate (if your battery allows you to do this)
2. Decrease the airflow, if your tank has adjustable airflow. The decrease in airflow will increase vacuum inside the tank's atomizer, which should increase the flow of juice to the wick.
3. Try releasing your fire button a half second or so before you stop your drag. This will help wet your coils slightly for the next drag.
4. Take a sharp draw (or two) on your drip tip (without engaging your battery). This will pull more eliquid into the coil so that it will be available when you press the battery button and take a draw.

You will get the feel of this over time and develop a sense of how often you will need to do this (any of the above) to avoid "dry hits". The PG/VG ratio of your eliquid also comes into play, as VG is thicker than PG . If you use high VG try adding a few drops of distilled water to your tank to thin out the eliquid. You could also install a higher ohm coil.

voltage is 3 which is as low as it can go. and i primed it ok i assume - no burnt taste and lots of vapour. i have tried taking smaller drags and still the same issue. i have also tried holdign the vapour in my mouth for a few seconds longer and that did not help. and i tried just breathing in rather than drawing and then inhailing. and same issue. also tried to differ the speed/strength at which i inhale. and no difference. gone back to the boge and no issues what so ever with my asthma.

its irritating as to i have no idea why its effecting my asthma.

the reason for changing is to find a smaller setup for carrying about. the vape pro is quite large and so is the tank.

Hi Rob and welcome.

A few thoughts: you may want to add an airflow control valve to your PT3, which will let you dial up the exact amount of vapor you like:

ProTank comes with dual coil atomizer head--3 volts is way too low for your setup. I don't know the exact resistance of your atomizer, but it's probably 1.8Ω or so (two 3.6Ω coils)--you're vaping at 2.5 watts (per coil), which is unvapeable territory--you need a minimum of 4.5 watts to vaporize your juice properly. Try going up to at least 4 volts and see if that helps.

More on the subject of volts and watts--this is basic knowledge that will help you to vape correctly:

Another thing is that you don't need to inhale into your lungs at all to get your nic from vaping as a lot of absorption occurs in your mouth and nasal passages.

Having said that, there may be some other factor(s) that make your asthma worse... If you continue to have problems, go back to your previous setup--get more comfortable with vaping and different inhalation techniques; you can always revisit your ProTank at a later date.

Good luck.

that is the chart i was using in the second link but was on a different site which did not explain the dual coil ohms, i thought that dual coil 1.8 was just that. but its not how its written. the reason for a low voltage was so a battery (18650) lasted more than an afternoon. i was a heavy smoker. and i have slight mint addiction ;)

i have tried at 4.5w and it seems to be ok for my asthma! so the lower watts was either too cold and irritating my asthma or something in it was not vaporising correctly but just enough to be in the vapour. if that makes sense... anyways.... never tried that high. only went to 3.5w. knew that i did not need to inhail, but its part of the habbit. hopefuly will stop all together at some point. reducing the nicotine slowly... so i dont kill anyone.

think i will find a single coil for the sake of my battery. thank you for the help :)

tis sorted bay! a useful thing to know should others have the same issue.

cheers :)
