Congrats!! I am very new with all this too. I just received my 1st ecig yesterday, and so far I am really enjoying it. I am not completely smoke-free yet as I have a half pack of analogs that I can't seem to just throw in trash. However, I have been using the ecig to get the feel for it and to adjust to the differences. I can definitely say that I enjoy the ecig more!!!

Don't sweat not wanting to throw away the analogs just yet, its nice to have a safety net if you absolutely NEED a cig you won't have to go buy an entire pack you will then be tempted to smoke, plus it seems to take some of the edge out of quitting even if you never actually smoke any of them.

Yeah. Sure there are "accidental quitters" and most members here no longer smoke but not everyone flushes their cigs in astonishment after their first vape. These folks have all the stars align right away and are the really lucky ones. You'll get there. I still smoke too as of now but a lot less without even trying.

Every time you vape instead of smoke is a positive thing.

Thanks mgaruccio and wrigleyvillain!! The money spent on the analogs is mostly keeping me from just throwing them away. I am hoping to be completely smoke-free before the end of this week :)

I am so glad that I found this forum!!! It is so great and helpful to find people who understand the hold that smoking has and to hear everyone's experiences with ecigs. I am so excited to have finally found something that will work!!

I am not sure I agree. My very first drag off of an ecig told me all I needed to know. “Hey I can do this!” If you are getting the same cigarette like sensation it’s just like switching brands. To me the key is to be very prepared. Always have an extra battery charged and get a passthrough for a backup. Find an eliquid that you like and stick to it and have plenty of cartomizers or whatever you are using for eliquid delivery.
I was the weakest of the weak when it came to cigarettes. A full-blown panic attack if I didn’t have a full accounting of where my stash was at all times. But when I had that aha moment the very best thing I did was to round up ALL of my cigarettes and take them to the dump. I gave myself no choice and I found that my PV took care of those “panic attacks” very well.

I was with you, KSharma on the hesitation to throw away the analogs. After about a month, that last half a pack I had left was too stale to hold onto anyway.

It took me about a year to find the right batteries, right company, right flavor and strength, but once I did, I stopped the analogs completely and haven't looked back. This forum should help, too. Good luck!

That's ok, I kept all mine 3 cartons worth in the freezer, and have some to give to the many who are facing very hard times and are homeless with no way to charge an ecig. But I do tell them about them so if they get back on their feet they have an option.

I am having a lot of trouble getting rid of analogs even after a few months vaping. I think it is situational for me, there are some places and times where going off for a cig was the only peace I could get. Of course I could go off for a vape, but it doesnt seem the same when I could vape right where I am sitting!

I started vaping for the convenience of being able to do it almost anywhere, maybe I just dont hate analogs enough.. yet.

I have actually thought about stuffing old buts in a jug of water and taking a big wiff of that when I want an analog!

This was kind of an issue for me as well.

I could go off and vape if I wanted, but somehow it wasn't the same.
I didn't have the little rituals, like taking out a smoke, getting out a lighter, lighting up, flicking ashes.

And there was no time limit, no end of cigarette to tell me the time was up.

What really helped for me is to develop a ritual around using my electronic cigarette.
And for me, that ritual developed around dripping, since I have to take out a bottle and put in a couple of drops.
And what really worked was carrying a couple of little 3ml bottles of different flavors, so I could make mixtures as desired.

Two sets of 3 drops and my electronic cigarette break was over.
Unless I wanted to go for one more set of 3 drops.
:)

I don't know if this will help you or not, but it might be worth a shot.

Yep, e-cigs are pretty great. Welcome to ECF!

I'm hitting my the 1 month mark now, and the time has flown by. I haven't gone this long without a smoke in a long time, and I feel pretty good. I kept my last pack of cigs in my purse for the first week or so, and I was amazed I didn't want one. Tried a couple, said to myself "wow, these taste like *expletive deleted*" and threw them away. At five or six bucks a pack, and the hard breathing, it wasn't worth it anymore. I usually smoked Marlboro Lights, but I was feeling crappy and craving a bigger hit, so I bought a pack of Camel Turkish Gold instead. I used to drink coffee with those because they seemed to go well together. Now I wonder what I was thinking! lol
