As a new vaper, and someone that lives in a small town, I haven't pulled my ecig out in public yet and just wondering if there are any vape friendly or hostile places in Edmonton.

Where have you dined that were totally in acceptance of it, and where did they ask you to stop?

We should have a list of vape friendly places, and places to avoid.

What is the general reaction you get to vaping in Edmonton public places?

i walk in downtown Edmonton with my pv hanging around my neck, and no one has questioned me yet when i vape. but that's outdoors, and i get curious looks from some of the people i pass by. the only time i vaped inside an establishment is at McNally's High Run Club, but i was drinking with a group of colleagues (smokers & non-smokers) who had insisted that i can vape inside since i'm just exhaling steam. good support group, if i may say so (because they don't mind me vaping when we're in the office) :)
i haven't vaped in any other establishments yet as i'm too lazy to answer the 4Ws and H of PVs

I'm done in Calgary and never really been harassed about my vaping. I been asked to stop smoking before but once I show the device they have let me carry on.

When i was a smoker, I was walking up 8th Ave SE and was approaching the McDonalds and threw out my .... and two cops nailed me with a $1,000.00 "burning garbage without a permit" ticket. Though i am in Winnipeg now, i am still working on getting a permit to burn garbage in city limits, then going to have a big 'ole bon fire on city hall steps :D you are more then welcome to participate :D

Hard to start a fire with a PV isn't it? You might have better luck with a magnifying glass. So no plus or minus either way? No pro vaping establishments or negative ones? That seems weird considering the old cafes on Whyte back before.

Stealth vaping to me feels like hiding something or doing something wrong so I'll just refrain, I was just hoping to see some sort of progression in some establishments where they welcome the clientele or even encourage it. I am always looking for forward minded people, but it seems that just might be too much in the air (pun) for Conservative Edmonton.

yay edmonton vapers! i live downtown and i just in general constantly vape. i've accidentally vaped in a lot of convenience stores, shoppers, and grocery stores accidentally and have never received any attention from it.
what was the black sheep allows vaping, the starlite room allows vaping, the shaw allows vaping, and the uofa hospital allows vaping. i don't west ed is known for its vaper-friendliness, but i've done it. bistro 112 is a cafe i used to work at, and vape at discreetly when it is quiet. the key is to not create clouds and talk to the girls first, they are extra nice. if you are just straightforward and explain what it is, it's usually ok. except for filthy's, forget those guys.
people are people and i have got a lot of different reactions. most people don't care, and above all else i do not care. my pv is just one more thing to point out about me some days. i don't know what you're using, but i always use a P+/vivi nova combo.
as far as hassle or grief i actually have had some downtown. mostly come down to belligerent entitled people who do not believe my pv is for nicotine and not a cigarette or whatever else. but those people can be told to mosey with a few sharp words anyways.

Thanks for the response, that was more along the lines I was looking for. I don't get into the downtown core much since I moved out of town, but I remember lots of rude people down there coughing and causing a scene on the sidewalk when I would walk by them with a stinky in my hand.

Certain areas of the city seem to be populated with more a-holes then others. I was at Westmount terminal one day and this girl slipped on the ice and fell in some mud and people just kept walking by her as she tried to get up. When I helped her up she told me how hurt her knee was and how humiliated she felt. I was embarrassed for humanity that day. They almost stepped on her trying to step over her and couldn't extend a hand.

I think my rule will be if I sit down at a restaurant I will set it down in the Center of the table and hope the waitress asks me about it before I have to ask her. If not I will mention it as she brings me my 1st course so I can hopefully vape while waiting for more food.

dude. that totally does not surprise me in a very sad way. i have also noticed that attitudes do change depending on where you are in the city, and for me even the time of the week, season, or day. kudos to you for helping out a human in need. I always leave my p+ out on the table, and waitresses always notice. surprisingly I haven't asked yet, but it will be a good intro into it. they mostly are concerned with the potential for disruption, and legislation concerns. so if you cover those two bases you should get the most honest response.

The bouncer at Filthy McNasty's on Whyte told me to stop vaping, or leave. I was being discreet, actually surprised me that he even noticed at all, they never had before, I didn't think it was a problem there. When I started explaining, he said he knew exactly what an e-cig was.

So I "slealthed" for a hour, then left... so did the other 11 people from my office who went there for dinner and drinks after work on Fridays (there are 2 e-cig users in our group).

We go somewhere else now. Oh well, doesn't bother me at all.

Lets do the math, just for fun :)

12 x $45 average tab = $540 / week
$540 x 50 weeks/yr = $27,000 / yr

Gotta wonder if the owner of F/M would have a different opinion of tossing almost 30 grand out the door with the vapin' guy, LOL

Hey, don't feel too bad. Here in Toronto you could be lying in a pool of your own blood and people will just walk by. :D

I have been vaping at O'Byrnes Irish pub last three times, but I did ask the waitress for the pub's policy on vaping first. Another girl showed up and I did a presentation with my Vamo + Vivi Nova, left some info for potential "converts" and was allowed to vape as long as I was discreet. Same goes for the Sicilian Pasta & Kitchen southside. Also, southside Ricky's Grill does allow vaping.

I'm hitting my PV 24/7 and use it everywhere I go. I only stealth vape if there's kids around or if I'm in a movie theater or somewhere it'd be a distraction. I've never been asked to stop, but have been questioned about it a few times.

I use a big ugly mod with a ridiculous looking carto tank on top FWIW.

I vaped through West Edmonton Mall for 3 or 4 hours with little to no questions. Some people looked at me funny and others coughed and moved wide of me, but no Security nor Police and i vaped right in front of the station a lot, questioned me or stopped me about it. I stopped a few people and they told me it stunk like cigs or cigars, I explained to them that it was gummybear and should smell like candy and they changed thier tune.

It's a knee jerk reaction that we have to stop, I experienced in my work today. They saw me puff a cloud from my desk and said it stunk, so the person at the other desk asked what did it stink like?

She said cigar, even though I blew Gummybear out, once corrected she asked did he really stop smoking?
