It's been a real long time since I've been on ECF. I left right as the whole sub-ohm movement was just getting started. I've actually built a few sub ohm coils and did fairly well with it but to be honest, when this all started I was a bit nervous from a safety perspective so I quit the whole sub-ohm thing. I found a REO and built microcoils instead and have been using this set up for a few years now.

In any case, with improvements in the technology it seems quite a bit safer.

I've bought an innokin Coolfire IV, and a sub G tank to go along with it and I have a few questions for you sub-ohm guys.

Innokin Coolfire 4 IV Box Mod 40W Blue

Innokin iSub G Tank - 4.5ml Capacity, 0.5ohm Organic Cotton Coils

1. When using a variable wattage device does the whole sub-ohm thing even matter?? Like the device will simply set the voltage for me so is there any real advantage here? if so, what is it?

2. I've read a bit about reducing the nic content of juice. I DIY all my juice. What would you recommend I go with in terms of nic level?

3. If you were me, where would you start wattage wise? The sub G tank comes with a 0.5 ohm coil.

4. I generally vape a 50/50 juice. Will this be a bad idea on this set up? What are most people using in terms of pg/vg ratio when sub ohming? Does it matter?

5. Not sub ohm related but can anyone tell me what type of battery life to expect on the coolfire? It's a 2000 mah device from what I understand.

All help appreciated and thanks in advance.

Your 50/50 juice will be good, I've heard of VG heavy juices sometimes being difficult for the tank to wick fast enough. I have a herakles tank which has .6 ohm coils, and it works around 30 watts, but is really ideal for me around 42-45 watts, just experiment with what you like.
I used to use 10-12 mg juice but now am down to 3mg with my sub ohm tank. You get so much more vapor even 6mg was too much.

1) This is the real tricky question. Hypothetically it does not matter, but in reality it does. 1ohm coil being run at (for example) 30w is not likely to behave the same as a .5ohm coil at 30w. They will likely have different "ramp up" times, meaning how quickly they get hot (or cool down). Which one is better? That is up to you. Totally a personal preference thing. I almost exclusively use regulated mods these days, and I rarely go high power anymore so sub-ohm coils aren't a must for me. However, with a subohm build its nice to think that I could just toss an atty on a mech if need be, and I will still get some reasonable performance.

2) Totally up to you. It seems these days with modern gear 6mg is considered on the high side. However, I still know people that use 12+mg with more advanced gear.

3) Start as low as you can and slowly work your way up until you have found what you prefer best

4) does not really matter. People tend to prefer high VG as it produces more vapor and many find PG to be a throat irritant. Having a bit of PG in your juice is definitely nice for tank systems, as it will flow more freely and thus wick more efficiently, however most modern tanks can operate with high VG just fine.

5) Impossible to predict. Depends on how much you use it and what power you have it set to. 2000mah is fairly respectable though.

Resistance and overall coil mass are the biggest factors in ramp up time because they directly relate to the actual voltage/amps your mod is pushing at a various wattage, and whether it is kicking voltage up or down, and how much heat flux your coil has (how resistant it is to cooling from airflow + juice vaporization). So yeah, your ohm rating (resistance) absolutely matters.

Your will know if the nic level is too high. 3-6 mg seem pretty typical now. 12 mg into an RDA headwraps me pretty quick.

If the tank system has an rba you should be able to feed high VG just fine.
If you have a reo do you have a bf RDA for it?

If you want to blow big clouds then a sub ohm build gets hot quick and throws a big cloud. Personally I like my builds mostly right around one ohm.

Nic for sub ohming I would suggest 2-5 mg/ml

To Taste. for me it would be around 20-25w. I dont like a flaming hot hit

More Vg more cloud. More Pg more flavor/throat hit (kinda)

Sub ohming eats a lot more battery. Cant predict without build and usage info. The CFIV is a great little device with a long run time for its rating. Lot of chat on it in the Innokin owners thread.

Welcome back, I remember your goofy-face avatar from a year or two ago.
