So I noticed a big, I mean HUGE hobo spider outside by the foundation of the house three days ago. Then I got a huge bit on my toe. Then I saw another hanging out on the ceiling. Last night my husband attempted to install some computer cable and climbed up onto our built in sheves and there was soooooooo many spiders!!!!!!!! So many! Eeeek!

What should I do?? I hate killing animals, even spiders but I can't risk my kids getting bit. Is there anyway to make them leave without pesticide? I really don't want to bath my house in bug killer. Advise please!

*shudder*

We have a lot of them at the new house too Glow!!

Not INSIDE, but they're EVERYWHERE outside!! The DOG doesn't even like going out there at night! I can see her shaking her head every 10 seconds because she's running through webs!!

AHHHHHHH!!!!!

Have I mentioned that I'm TERRIFIED of spiders?

I got the Raid Spider Blaster and sprayed the little suckers back to hell where they came from!! (That being said, I DID feel really bad about one of them...it tried to run and I ended up feeling sorry for it, but it was a BIGGIE!)

I don't want to get bitten, I don't want my daughter to get bitten and I don't want the dog to get bitten, get REALLY afraid of going outside, (as you'll recall, she was SO terrified of a CRANE that was 5 BLOCKS AWAY, she started piddling in the HOUSE!), she starts having 'inside accidents' again!

The spray also works for up to 2 weeks to KEEP them away, I guess new ones don't like the smell or something, so after you've had to get rid of the ones that are ALREADY there, you don't have to KILL anymore, they'll stay away on their own, me thinks.

Once infested, there's not much of choice than to kill 'em off, Glow. There are insecticidal soaps on the market that will keep them at bay afterward but you're at risk for bites now... it's Glow vs Spiders. I'm rooting for you, Glow. =)

Ironically, nicotine has been used for ions as a pesticide. I wouldn't suggest spraying inside the house, but if you have some e-liquid that you just can't stand and are about to dump it down the drain -- you could dilute it some and spray the house foundation. Prior to vaping, I've soaked chewing tobacco in a container of water and sprayed the perimeter of the house with it. It is surprisingly effective.

I'm a follower of Jerry Baker, master gardener. His tricks for potions from household items are effective. But, he does NOT recommend being completely organic when something is very wrong. An infestation of biting spiders is a real problem and calls for a real solution (hard core insecticides), IMHO. Good luck, Glow.

So you just used Raid? Nothing special? I am going to have to compromise my vegan self. I just read online about how people end up in the hospital for Hobo bites. Eeewwww.

That's it Glow! I bought this stuff...

Well it is done. I hope it works. You would not believe how many spiders went scurry about. I swear I have looked at 1000 spiders today! My skin will not stop crawling. Now its time to let the hubby do the inside of the house and go to a movie until the fumes go away. I will probably be vacuuming up little dead bodies for a week. Sigh.

So far this year I have had to dissect sheep brains, cow eyes and sheep lungs. Do a metabolism experiment on rats and then kill 1000 a spiders. I am going straight to vegan hell where I will have to flame broil whoppers and use animal tested deoderants for all eternity, oh noes........

When I went to home depot to get the bug spray the had free sod! You know rolls of grass and sod you lay out on your lawn. Really cool as we had just dug up a old oil tank and had a huge swath of bare dirt in our front lawn that I was trying to figure out how to deal with. Free sod! What a lucky girl I am! Except for my spider curse I mean......

Diatomaceous Earth

Organic bug killer. Safe for pets and kids. It shreds exoskeletons and makes the buggies dehydrate so they die. Used it in my old place and had tons of spider corpses *shudder*. Also works on fleas and ticks.

Topaz, thank you for the link. We live in a old growth tree area and have a lot of trees, dry leaves, bugs.....this will be helpful to me as I can't just keep spraying chemicals about. I have a garden and don't want to eat pesticide residue.
