Not to make you both feel bad, but I am currently enjoying some delicious hodges home brew Christmas edition ( which is like a creamy candy cane flavour)

It tastes beautiful [emoji12]

Bleurgh to your candy cane tasting deliciousness! I don't want any of that rubbish. I far more enjoy vaping copious amounts of e liquid that tastes of nothing and having a weird feeling numb tongue. ;)

No, I can not taste anything. Well in terms of vape. I can still taste other things such my food and the carpet.

Now and then I do get a slight hint of flavour on the back and front of my tongue, but it happens rarely so it's nothing to write home about.
It really is the weirdest feeling. It is far worse for me today than the last couple of days. I even changed my coil last night despite the fact it was newish. I had a couple of new liquids so I thought maybe that was it, switched to some of my tried and tested liquids, still nothing. Then I saw your post about vapers tongue and it I thought YES! That makes sense. I've drank lots of water, brushed my teeth and tongue a thousand times, vaped awful menthol and I've had my nose in the coffee jar. Still nothing. How long does this last?

If weird feeling numb tongue is your thing, you should try some of my DIY Clove :) It's powerful medicine and it will numb your tongue.

Once again I have a bunch of questions. Since deciding to give sub ohming a go (when I finally get my mod) I have a million more questions and I'm slightly confused.

First, I have a juice related question. I've been advised at my local vape store that my iStick 20W w/Nautilus Mini shouldn't be used with e liquid that has a higher VG than 30%. Would you agree with this? If this is true would that be the case with any tank that isn't built for sub ohming? Would I be able to use higher VG liquid in a sub ohm tank if I was using an above ohm coil or should high VG liquid just be used for sub ohming and dripping? Any advice welcome.

OK, my next question, can you guys recommend a good regular tank for tootle puffing and one for sub ohming. Most YouTube tank reviews seem predominantly aimed towards sub ohming so advise about the former would be really helpful.

Lastly (for now at least), I'm also kind of confused about wattage. Are the high wattages used only for sub ohming? What is the highest I should expect to go when using an above ohm coil? Does it depend on the device or are there rules to follow? I've looked into ohms law and checked out the charts that are floating around the internet but I was even more confused after that.

I hope I have made enough sense here and I hope you don't mind all the questions.

Thanks guys :).

The kanger subtank is a good choice because it comes with sub ohm coils and above ohm coils. It also has a rebuildable coil should you decide to go down that route.

I made my first batch of DIY liquid today. 100% vg and the other half is happily of to work with a sub tank full of it. No issues at all.

When I was above ohm vaping I would be using a max of about 20w. Depends on the set up and liquid used but this is better worked out by starting low and increasing until you get loss of taste/dry burn.

It isn't a rule as such but if you get dry burn your wattage is too high.

Hope that helps :)

first, i think the shops estimate is low - have run 50% vg juice in a nautilus without major issues though higher vg will have trouble wicking in those coils... and it will all depend on the coils and how well they wick - typically, sub ohm coils are built for better wicking as most sub ohmers vape higher vg juice (i tend towards 70% vg, personally)... some higher ohm coils (kanger 1.2, 1.5 verticals for subtank) are perfectly capable of wicking higher vg juices...

not very familiar with it, but many tootle puffers seem to be fond of the GS Air tank, I believe? for sub ohm, a GREAT tank for ease of use, flavor and vapor production is the Uwell Crown

typically, higher wattages will be for sub ohm, based on Ohm's law and resistance of coils... +ohm coils often thrive in the 8-18 watt range, while sub ohm coils tend to run from 25-90 watts, in general - depending on preferences... wattage used is dependent on specific coil, not device

hope this helps some :)

I don't agree, no. The 1st version of the BVC coil (small holes, not cotton filler) started to get shaky at around 50/50. You can definitely vape 50/50 in the new version. (bigger holes, cotton).
I use a lot of 80/20 and it was better with the old coils. @Stu_ knows about this too.
They get a bit flooded and then... meh... the taste goes much quicker too.
I am unimpressed actually and might switch to Eleaf GS tank.
The subtanks are nice. Again, there are new coils (vertical). These seem to demand more power, so good for 18-25w, less good for 12-18w, which is my ideal.

As I just said on AAEC UK. Anything over 20w with Kanthal is doing my head in. If I want a quick blast at 30/40/50 watts then TC seems more to my liking.
..or 20-30 watts in a dripper... that's where high VG liquid is the real winner for me.

PS, many of the charts are no longer accurate.

Thank you everyone. You have all been HUGELY helpful. I think I'll pick myself up a GS Air as far as getting a tootle puffing tank. As for a sub ohm tank, I have a list somewhere of tanks that have been recommended on YouTube or that I've liked the look of. Damned if I can find the list so from memory I had listed the Zephyrus V2, Aspire Cleito, Horizon Arctic and Herakles something. What are you guy's thoughts on these? Oh, and the beyond Vape Silo. To he honest, this one I just thought looked pretty.

The Kanger Subtank domes up again and again and seems a pretty solid choice. Maybe that's a good bet.

As for liquids, it seems that the better liquids often come in higher VG so it's good to know that I can go a bit higher on the Nautilus Mini. I was thinking about trying a Zamblebox subscription actually. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

Thanks again :)

You should be able to do 50/50 easily in the Nauti. Juice ratio is about wicking, not power. The GS Air is a good choice for tootle puffing, and anything on your list for subohm. Look also at the iSub by Innokin. As has been said, the Subtank is versatile and will do either with a coil change. (Technical warning!) Vapor is made at the surface of the coil wire, in contact with wet wick. There are no hard and fast rules, but in general you want the coil wire surface area radiating somewhere between 100-200 milliwatts per square mm of surface (no, you don't need to remember that.) Subohm coils generally require more wattage than +ohm coils to attain this power level. A 1.2 ohm coil in the Nauti likes 10-15 watts for most people; a .5 ohm coil in a Subtank is happier in the 25-30 watt range. But for vaping it's simple: start low and ease the wattage up until you get the best combination of vapor, flavor and temperature. If you decide to build your own coils, I or somebody will teach you to use the Steam Engine calculator to select the best combo of wire, wraps and mandrel to fit your deck and make the right power level. But until then, don't worry about it: start low and work up until you like the vape.

I still have 2 mods and 2 tanks sealed in their boxes (I thought it to be a waste to open and set them up since I can not immediately enjoy them) yet I am already hunting for another set up. Looking for a small and quality tank (options: Goblin Mini, Avocado) and mod. The small sized mods I liked are no longer manufactured :( (Mini Volt, Dna 30).

I'm not quite sure I'm even in the right place here. I should be on the New Members board. I rarely use forums but I've found that recently, whenever I have Googled a question regarding anything vapey, I usually end up here so I might as well join.

A bit about myself:

I recently switched from analogues and after a bunch of research I decided on the istick 20w with Nautilus Mini tank. I'm pretty much already addicted to anything vape related and spend far too many hours on the internet looking at tube mods, box mods, e liquid brands and blah blah blah. I'm on the look out for my next set up so any advice is welcome. In fact, any advice about anything is welcome. I have found that the info isn't obvious right off. I have learnt as I go along and at times it's nearly been enough for me to switch back. Example, I had no idea that coils needed to be changed often. I thought my device was shot and too much trouble etc. It would be good if newbs were directed somewhere for the start up info they need, wouldn't it?

I talk too much, obviously.

So, I have a million questions but I'll save it for the relevant places. In the mean time, Hi and any advice for new vapers would be appreciated.
Nah, chat away - that's what we're here for. I'm new as well and believe me, you are right at home here. Any questions you have, fire away people in the forums are glad to help and will adivse without making you feel dumb. (I know, I asked all the dumb questions)

So welcome, congrats on leaving the analogues behind, a new world awaits that is better than you can hope. Vaping is a world all it's own and an experience that will reward many times over.

In the time I've been vaping, I have learned to build my own coils and DIY my own liquids. It's actually fun once you're confident. And the folks in here will give you the confidence you need.

(Can you tell I'm a vaping/vaping forum cheerleader?).
Welcome!
