Do not get a hell boy!

Honestly for £1.31 and free postage, I'd say you would be mad to not try a clone before investing in an authentic. There will most likely be differences in the two but it should give you a good idea if you will like the vaping style.

I have purchased 3 RDAS that will most likely never see the light of day because I don't like them.

I have bought loads that I do like though and that makes the duds worth it :)

I hope you get a good response from the vendor of your mod. Broken vaping gear sucks

Hey, I'll definitely look into some clones. I have a huge 'vape list' so it would help with cost. Like you say, if I like the style I can buy the authentic. The next on my list is the eVic Mini mod, Cubis tank and the batteries and charger etc. I'll get that stuff authentic since its not too expensive anyway and it's pretty safe in terms of how well I'll get on with it. After I've made those purchases and acquainted
myself a little better with sub ohming I'm going to look into dripping a little more seriously and with a view to buying some stuff.

Hey, I read earlier on in the thread that you're dealing with cancer. That really sucks. Really, really sucks. I hope things are going well for you. Oh, the coils arrived, you are awesome. It turns out that the letter went on a detour because Royal Mail decided the sender didn't pay enough postage. Seems a little sketchy to me since there were three teeny coils in there. Surely that shouldn't have cost more than a stamp. Pfft, Royal Mail, shame on you.

Forget what I said earlier about my new set up not chucking enough cloud. I just had to open up the air flow, whack up the wattage and I was in cloud city. My partner, who is still a full time smoker and has ZERO interest in vaping, saw me take a hit and said "that is just ridiculous!"

I'm using a .3 ohm coil. Where abouts should I be with wattage? I have gone no higher than 50w.

Ah, turns out it WAS the cable. For some reason the iStick wasn't as affected. Maybe the port on the iStick is a little smaller and holds it tighter? I don't know, but I changed the cable and it's charging solidly, so, I don't have broken vaping gear.

Do a quick Youtube search for reviews to see what they said the delay periods were for them. I think there is a 1 second delay on my RX200 and on my Subox I can't notice any, maybe half a second.

I did a quick google and found this review: SMOK R80 TC Micro One Review | E-Cigarette Reviews and Rankings The reviewer says he found no delay on his.

Weirdly, the delay only occurs when the wattage is relatively low. No delay above 35w and a longer and longer delay the lower it goes under that. Does that figure? I'm using the .3 ohm pre installed coil.

You should find the upper limit on a .3 ohm coil well above anything you're likely willing to vape. It will depend on the manufacturer as to how their built. There should be a wattage range recommendation on the coil or the box. If it were a .3 ohm coil I built in a dripper or RTA I could take it to 120 watts without worrying about frying it, but I use larger wire than most prefabs. Or, at least, I could take it to 120 watts if I had titanium lips, a stainless steel throat lining and leather lungs. The vape gets hot in a hurry as wattage climbs.

50w is HOT for me at the moment. My partner picked up my mod to take a MTL like he does occasionally on my iStick. I tried to warn him but he wouldn't listen and almost choked his lungs up. He is still a full time smoker and not interested in vaping so to him a mod is a mod.

In the TFV4 mini. There is no delay when I use my Nautilus Mini set at 10.2 watts on the R80 so did I simply have the wattage down too low for the coil resistance?
Ah! Ok, that makes sense. The issue you are experiencing is called ramp time or ramp up time. The TVF4 has coils with big wire and lots of surface area. THe thing about it is, the coil in your TVF is a lot more massive (in the physics sense) than the ones in the Nauti. Since they have more mass, it takes more power to heat them to vapor temperature than less massive coils. Therefore, ramp time varies indirectly with applied power. At 20 watts, it takes a few seconds to put enough power on the coil to heat it. At 50 watts, it happens faster because you're applying more power per time period.

Me too. I usually only get over 50 watts in TC mode if I am using complex an massive coils, to eliminate the ramp time I just described. But in TC mode it doesn't get too hot because the mod backs off the power once temp is reached.

Hm.. I thought my 50w vape on my Aromamizer was a much cooler vape compared to the 30+w vape I was trying for on my Subtank. I don't think I'm imagining things. Surely it has to be airflow.

Perfectly correct. Airflow both cools the coils themselves, and mixes with the vapor stream and cools it as well.
