Okay, I know I have to expect nicks and dings on my beautiful platinum Ego but....there must be something we could coat them with to help prevent it. I always store my spare battery in its soft cloth case inside a sturdy plastic case and I really don't put my batteries through much wear and tear beyond the norm. I just want them to stay looking new because unless I have some weird glitch, I should expect several months use out of them. I've had them for 7 weeks and at this rate, in another 7 weeks they're going to look pretty bad. I used some Gorilla super glue this morning and dabbed it on a little place that had been nicked and was starting to tear and noticed it went on pretty smooth and the only difference is that it shines a bit more than the original finish and it creates a slick finish as opposed to the velvety soft finish. I was thinking about putting a thin layer over the entire battery finish as protection. Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas on how to protect the finish without messing with the beauty and texture?

Taxicat,
I'm glad someone else chided in with me and surely we're not the only two people who have encountered this problem. I know it isn't really a technical issue but the cosmetic aspect of vaping is very important to many of us. I'm very tempted to apply a coat of Gorilla glue to the entire finish of the battery I doctored this morning and just see how well it wears. The area I applied it to looks fine, the only difference is the sheen. I hope someone else has some ideas too.

I just ordered the Ego today from Cignot. I specified the black finish which looked like a rubber sleeve coating. My 510 is just painted black which is probably easier to maintain.

Repairing a platinum finish could be tricky. I'd ask the supplier about it since multiple people are seeing the same thing.

Other than paint, I can't think of a good fix. Maybe something in the line of contact paper would make the battery look new, but if wouldn't be platinum anymore. The cone would be hard to cover. Clear lacquer, maybe, after you glue the flecks back on?

Thought I would add my .02 here....

Bought a black Tornado (aka Ego) kit about 3 months ago......absolutely LOVED IT.....so much in fact that about 2 weeks later ordered a Platinum battery and cone.

The original black batteries still look almost new (although they are fast approaching the end of their useful life). On the other hand, the platinum finish began pealing in less than two weeks and now looks like it crawled through hell without the requisite asbestos kneepads.

All in all, I consider the Torn/Ego to be an outstanding "step-up" device and would recommend (and have) to anyone. I will likely keep one around as I still believe it to be the best looking device available. For the most part have now moved on to mods which offer even better battery life and the batteries cost only a fraction of the Ego batts.

I have a platimum Ego that finally started peeling on the cone, decided I would like a 2 tone Ego better then a peeling one so I took a rag with just rubbing alcohol on it and cleaned the platinum off the cone, You will be amazed how easy it comes off!
I now have a silver and platinum ego LOL Looks pretty.
My pink ego with the rubberized finish seems to be holding up just fine so far.
The platinum one is more of a metal painted thing

My Tornado batteries and cones only make it about 3-4 weeks before peeling. Now I have a beautiful, functional, stainless Tornado. My only problem is that the battery is slippery and with any juice running down the sides, it feels down right slimy. I have a lovely piece of electrical tape around the battery to reduce the dropping risk. Let me know how the painting works. I have seen a vendor that sells covers for the battery for 5.99 which seems a little high for a strip of material. The finish actually came off very easily after it had started peeling. Just rub with a wet paper towel and poof - stainless.

LOL, I also now have a two-tone eGo. With in 3 days of use, the platinum finish on the cone started to peel. It seemed that the e-juice was eating it. I used a green scrubber pad and removed and polished the cone. Now the finish on the batteries is starting to look a little ratty. Oh-well, it still works and I just use it now for backup. My SB is my main PV now.

My cone looks great, it's the battery end that's peeling. Hmmmm.....so if i just give in and peel off the platinum, I'll have a stainless steel Ego? That might not be bad at all. That plastic film that companies put on cell phone screens and microwave pads for protection would probably work great if applied when you first get it. Anyone know if that stuff can be bought anywhere?

LyndaGayle....

We sure are in good company with this aren't we....LOL

Tried the alcohol thing.....worked like a charm! The stainless steel is quite attractive although like mentioned a bit slippery.

As I mentioned before, not sure about anyone else, but when it comes to my eGo, I don't care what it looks like! It's the best!

But I have to admit...the stainless does look more presentable in public, LOL

I have had my white tornado for right at 4 months now and neither of my batteries or my cone are chipping or peeling at all.
This must be a problem with just the platinum and black tornadoes.

Anyways, if you do decide to try a "spray paint" type fix, make sure you get appliance paint. You can pick it up at Lowes and Home Depot. It is made to spray on stoves, ovens, refrigerators, etc.. This would hold up much better than regular spray paints or acrylics varnishes.

I certainly believe this is a platinum specific problem now. Sounds like the black ones are pretty much the regular wear and tear dings. I might try a new paint job if I get real brave but I just hate to lose the almost velvety texture. It's not a big deal right now and certainly doesn't interfere with the enjoyment I get from it but I just want it looking nice until it's time to get new batteries. I love the platinum color but will most likely go with a different color on my replacement bats. I really appreciate all the input.

I ordered my first as a kit from TW - it was 2 batteries and the cone in platinum with a shiny finish - then I lost one somewhere, so I ordered another battery and cone from TW (but this time they were the rubbery finish (didn't like it nearly as much as the shiny finish (but now the replacement battery and cone are both peeling, so soon I'll be back to the shiny finish (but a little more silvery) I'll have to try the alcohol and see if i can get the peely part off quicker.....
