Has any one tried to dismantle and / repair an ego mega atty? One of mine died the other night and I would like to dismantle it to see the inside. It was the first one that died on me and I am sure I was my fault. I was sampling some flavors and dry burning between them and I believe I over did it. I know I can dismantle, dismember and otherwise render it to smaller pieces. LOL But I would like to do it in a manner that the pieces will be recognizable, and / or reusable.

While it's no guarantee, the Ego mega attys are going to be just like the all of the other styles of attys out there. I have rebuilt 901 and 510 just to see if I could do it should there ever be a ban. There is a thread in the moders section of how to rebuild an atty. My mega attys are sitting in a drawer since I never liked the taste. I have also given up on ego and Riva style batteries due to the high failure rate.

Read the thread. It contains a ton of detail.

It's going to be a bit easier than other styles since it is a bigger atty so you will have more room to work with, but you still need a bit of skill and a lot of patience.

One think of note: do not use a good battery as one end of the lever. If you pop the top part off of an ego while attempting to force out the inner portion of an atty, you might end up ruining an expensive battery. Read the thread, my statement will become self explanatory since there are a lot of pictures.

Read the thread: boil them first to loosen the glue (acetone would work but would attack any finish), thread in an old battery, measure the inside of the atty where you would put in the cart, find something that is a tight fit (drill bit, pipe, rod), shove it in there. and and using the two wiggle them around until you break the seal.

I have not taken apart an ego mega atty. In looking at mine, I see that the atty assembly is way up in the body; you will have to try to duplicate the method from the thread for separating the two. There is also a way to break the seal for a 901 which involves using a vise and bolt big enough to crack the seal between the atty body and outer housing.

I have had only some success breaking open 901's; 510's break apart fairly easily.

I used the bolt and vise method and it worked very well, there was a silicone rubber sleeve between the outer tube and inner metal tube, the hardest part was getting the metal inner tube off, The mesh was bent over the top of the tube, and when trying to pry the tube up the base came loose and broke one of the wires so I cut the other one and then the tube slid off the bottom very easy
