between here and there
I've found myself not vaping as much since reading the study -- I don't use TC and really don't know what temps I am vaping at (8-10 watts, 1.0 ohm coil). It's worrisome enough to scare me a little, I guess.

I like a cool vape also, and wonder myself just what the conditions in RL actually were to produce the results in that study......I am not convinced that actual real world usage was used. In any case, considering most of the info is coming out of the FDA, I mean really??? And Evolv??? Maybe they are trying to show the FDA they can be 'leaders' in the closed systems?? I just do not think we are being given the entire story of what is really going on......food for thought
:)

I have to agree with this.
I am very critical of this study so far.
I do want to get more info in the future.
Will I change my vaping style? Not yet.

I'm with ya, m'dude. This study and the subsequent videos brought more questions than answers. The ECF thread is wild with opinions and fear and shrug it off-ness. VERY interesting.

We need more information, and it will most likely come, in time.

Right now, I know my body is SO much better off than it was when I smoked. That may be...... all I need to know.

Queue it up, Aaron and Lin.

Nor will I. Bottom line for me is that I smoked(regularly) from the time I was 14 years old. I did manage to quit a few times in my life for varied different lengths of time, but stress about this or that always seemed to reel me back in. Ecigs changed me and gave me back my life. To me they are 1000's of times better than smoking could ever be. Even if there is some hint of the truth to these recent studies, it does not take away from my restored health and the freedom of the chains of cigarettes.

So I do not plan to change my vaping style, even if it isn't 95% less harmful than smoking. We already know that smoking kills, but with ecigs, those who have been vaping even for a little while know that their bodies are responding as a non-smokers would and does. To me, these studies have not been proven in rl usage and only show what they want us to see. Scare tactics usually work on the masses of the uneducated and I see this as just another blow to the industry by the haters. I will wait for many more studies before I begin to believe anything that comes from the FDA or through the FDA.

sorry for the long post

So totally agree with all of you. Lets not forget studies can be squewed and data interpreted in many different ways, depending on what the researcher is looking for.

We need to sit tight and see what else comes down the path through research before we panic.

Rant on, S&S. You made some very valid points.

Sing it with me, MikeADorable!
Well, you sent me right down a rabbit hole. Had to go to YouTube to hear some Linda songs, which led me to look up "Different Drum" from her Stone Poneys days (which is when I fell madly and eternally in love with her), which led me to look up the Eagles documentary because Linda drug those guys around with her early on, but the Eagles documentary (the best documentary I've ever seen) is very loooong, so I wound up watching an hour-long doc on Linda, Emmy Lou Harris and Dolly Partin's "Trio" album, which is a masterpiece.

Whew. That's a mouth full. Anyway, that was an hour and a half of pure joy.

Mike, you sound just like me when I get into YouTube. One song leads to another, then that sparks a memory and I'm off in search or this song, that artist.

@Katya
cool, what device are ya gonna try first ?

yes SS is the way to go IMO
it works in both Watts OR TEMP CONTROL modes
here's what I think the best place to aquire your SS wire
- https://www.temcoindustrial.com/stainless-steel-wire-316l-non-resistance.html
I like the 30g SS 316L (and maybe a little 28g)

- - -

most devices are mostly the same basic procedures - you have to have it in TC mode to be able to adj the TC Watts
then, once your IN, make adjustments (Watts & Temp) (make sure you're in °F; NOT °C)
FOR ME
- I find you have to at least be at 22w(min) to make TC work proper (IMO)
* 22w / 200°F /1.0Ω will probably get you NOTHING when you push button
* then raise Temp to say: 250°F and ya might see a wisp of cool vapor - then so on... etc.

after you have a go with it at say (guess) 22w/310°F for awhile then choose if you'd like to raise TC Watts (25w 30w?) all up to you from here...

Thanks, Puff. But... I'm still confused.

Let's take our beloved Presa. The specs say that: Our default setting is SS316. TCR value is 120 [what ????].

And you can try to use TCR mode and set the TCR value according to your coil’s material.
Material: TCR value range
Nickel: 600-700
NiFe: 300-400
Titanium: 300-400
SS(303,304,316,317): 80-200"

http://www.tasteyourjuice.com/wordpress/archives/10076

Soooo, per Phil, if your device is tuned for a specific SS alloy, like ss316 for most TC mods, if you use a different alloy, your temperature reading will not be accurate unless you switch to TCR mode. But I see peeps using all kinds of ss alloys all the time, most often ss316L and and others, in regular ss mode (not TCR).

And then I read post like this one:

SS430 is the most accurate due to its high tcr value. It runs fine on my 350j with the manual tcr adjustment set to .00142.

Temperature Coefficient of Resistance?

Somebody help me....
