I feel pretty comfortable with my soldering abilities but I'm also lazy. Does anyone care to share an opinion regarding the benefits or downfalls, the pros or cons of buying an Ego-Twist vs. a cheap madvapes mod kit such as this: Variable Volt Box Mod Kit

I could and have considered ordering both but I'd just like to know about peoples opinions in general on both units.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated!

Good to know. Thanks! Do you feel you get as much variableness ( I know that isn't a real word) as you need from the twist?

So far yeah. It's 3.2 to 4.8 and holds pretty good it seems. Sure I can go higher with my VTube, but I don't much unless I have one of my SR attys on it. Which is rare, since I like my CE3s these days. Run those around 4 - 4.5. The nice thing with the Twist ... in theory you can have 4.555v or the like ... since it's a smooth spinning dial. The .2 is just marks on the dial to give you an idea where you're at, but it will dial in where ever you want between 3.2 and 4.8. I might take the VTube to work here or there just to have coworkers get really curious (They already are, but I really want my smoking coworkers to consider the switch). Battery life is really the only major consideration. I'm a heavy vaper, and I get maybe 3 - 4 hours total out of a 650mah Twist. I have a 1600mah and I think it's 1800mah 18650 batteries here for the VTube, and while I haven't had it long enough to put them through their paces, I know they're going to last longer. That's just basic math.

The VV Box Mod can handle more amps than the twist which will mean it can take LR DCs to higher voltages. However, it might have shorter battery life.
I personally prefer the mod boxes vv or set voltage ones.. as long as you don't intend on throwing the boxes around they are a better vape.. if you want something sturdier go with the twist or another tube pv

The twist I believe does have some voltage sag, not sure if the MV box does a bit better in that area. If you already have an eGo charger, a 650 mAh twist only runs about $19. I just picked one up recently, for times when something might be lost; it certainly isn't as good all around as my buzz pro, but if I'm going on a boat I can trade some absolute performance/ruggedness. (BP I absolutely prefer on land, it's a beast, works great and takes a beating.)

Old goat VV is another cool item at a not too bad price. $50 for a 3 ml bottom feed VV, though you have to add a pair of 14500 batteries and charger (I use trustfire black flamejackets, AW also has good 14500). Not as high performance/rugged as my higher end VVPV top feeder, but only 1/3 the price. It lets you test VV as well as bottom feeders at a decent price point.

Until this week I would have voted for the Madvapes VV Box. I've bought ten of them over the past 15 months (none recently), and they worked beautifully for the most part. Hard-hitting, high amp limit, and surprisingly durable. Only one had failed.

Until last week. Two more went belly up to that big PV Valhalla in the sky. The first one started firing by itself and turned a perfectly good clearomizer into a semi-melted Leaning Tower of Piza. Not good. The second one's 510 connector came loose and then broke for real. Since all the innards are sealed in hot glue, no user repairs are possible.

So, that's three of ten that are now kaput. Not as good a track record as I'd like after a year.

I fear their time is passing because of technological obsolescence. While an eGo Twist is not as powerful an APV and won't vape with quite the same intensity, it's probably a better (and cheaper) choice.

Or, the OP could buy an Ovale V8 and get the best of both worlds.

The thing is I'd say you'd have a lot worse track record after a year with the Twist. The device is kaput when the battery goes. Three out of ten doesn't sound that bad.

You're right, Mickey, it's not that bad. It's just that when I first began buying (and using) Madvapes VV Boxes, I didn't mind screwing on an inline voltage display every time I changed something. Nor did I mind the fact that the adjusting screw is far from linear---sometimes it's really a pain to hit the exact voltage I want because the slightest turn of the adjusting screw puts the setting well past that. Then I turn it back a tiny bit, and it overshoots again, this time lower than I want.

None of that bothered me last year. Now I own numerous VVs with displays that adjust incrementally---three Young-June Vtubes, a Smoktech Vmax, and an Ovale V8. Yes, I know that Madvapes makes a VV box with a built-in voltage display, but it still has the non-linear adjustment screw. And anyway, of my former 10 MV VV boxes, two were the kind with displays, and those were two of the three that crapped out on me.

Do I still like my seven remaining MV VV boxes? Yes, just as much as I still like my five other similar dual-14500 box VVs, but I'm getting spoiled in my old age for ease and convenience.

I also own two 650mAh eGo Twists. They're OK, but they don't vape with anywhere near the impact of my other VVs. I can't yet speak to longevity, as both are only two months old. So far, so good---but I wouldn't buy another Twist.

I contacted Madvapes about the VV Box mod with display but they pulled it as it had issues, when they iron out the bugs it will be available for purchase again. This might have been posted before but thought I would mention it.

bill, maby those issues were why those died?

Flikka,

Yes, I always suspected that something was inherently amiss with my two boxes. They vaped like my other Madvapes VVs, but the displays would stop working, then start again sometimes weeks later. I figured bad wiring (soldering), but perhaps the design of the circuit itself was squirrelly.

Doesn't matter, though, because I prefer the digital voltage setting, PWM switching, and rubberized coating on the Ovale V8. Even with a lower amp limit, the V8 is now my VV-of-choice at the low end of the price spectrum.

Thanks for all the great input! I'll probably go for the twist right away because it's a unbox and go kind of thing. But I see a VV mod in my near future:)
Thanks again everyone!

Good luck, Dawn! I hope you love the Twist. Thanks for an interesting thread topic!
